Superboy – The Boy Of Steel review

Publisher:  DC Comics Writer:  Geoff Johns Artist:  Francis Manapul A Brief History of The Boy Redundant OK, so for those not in the know, the current incarnation of Superboy was conjured into life as part of the “Death of Superman” storyline, and his “big reveal” was that he’s a clone of Superman, but with powers based on ‘tactile telekinesis’ (it’s comic book physics dude, live with it). Of course, the whole clone thing naturally resulted in several years of “Oh my god, I’m a clone” moping, which Superman tries to…

Acer Liquid E on Rogers review

Before jumping into a review of the Acer Liquid E, let’s take a really brief look at the history of Acer… Back in the days when more PC users built their own machines, Acer was known for it’s computer component parts, such as motherboards, and branded graphics cards.  Although they branched out into pre-built PCs and laptops over a decade ago, it’s really been the past few years, when they’ve capitalized on the decreasing costs of components, and made a series of acquisitions, that have propelled them into the worldwide…

Toshiba mini museum of portable computing

At the Primer Party for NXNEi, we got more than a hands on with Toshiba’s Satellite A660-042 3D laptop.  There was a mini Toshiba portable computing museum lined up against the wall, though it’s amazing how 20 years or so has really redefined the meaning of ‘portable’. Unfortunately, none of the pieces were powered up, we did have an opportunity to lift some of these beasts, including the Toshiba T5200C, the first 16 colour portable computer which back in it’s day was $17,000 and 18.7 lbs.  Also on hand was…

Xbox LIVE Gold Family Subscription coming in November

Microsoft will be rolling out the new Xbox LIVE Gold Family subscription in November of 2010.  The new plan, priced at $99 US, is about the same price as 2 regular 12 month subscriptions, but gives you four separate accounts. It’s obviously targeted at families, not friends pooling to save some money on their subscription, as there will be a primary (or parent) account that will be able to dole out the MS Points to the secondary (or children) accounts.  The parent account will also be able to monitor the…

Toshiba 3D laptop hands on

If there’s one thing that’s almost inescapable in consumer electronics these days, it’s 3D in just about everything.  We had a chance to give Toshiba’s new Satellite A660-042 3D laptop a run for it’s money at the Toshiba-sponsored Primer Party, as part of NXNEi, ahead of it’s public release.  It’s the first major release of a 3D laptop in Canada, though others using the Nvidia 3D Vision technology are available at many independent and smaller chains. The Toshiba Satellite A660-042 is definitely the kind of rig that a gamer can…

Bell also releases the HTC Legend

While we are still waiting for our Virgin Legend to arrive, so we can post our review of the latest HTC Android phone to be released in Canada, we also want to (belatedly) report that Bell has also officially launched the Legend. As mentioned in the article about the Virgin Mobile Legend, the Bell version was released, as the leaks indicated, last week, on Wednesday June 16th, with much less fanfare than the Virgin version (who had Richard Branson on hand in Montreal to launch the phone). The Bell HTC…

DSLR talk back from RED founder Jim Jannard

Just last week, I was having a discussion with with a co-worker about video recording on the new breed of DSLRs, and mentioned that if RED doesn’t get it’s butt in gear, they could very well concede the prosumer market to the likes of Canon and Nikon.  As more pro filmmakers start putting the DSLRs through stress tests, they’ve finding time and again that the results are much better than initially expected. It’s not surprising that a similar discussion has been going on in the reduser forums, in which RED…

Jaws turns 35, still looks fake

It was on June 20, 1975 that audiences first bore witness to perhaps the greatest opening sequence in cinematic history: that of Christine Watkins taking her drunk boyfriend down to the shores of Amity Island for a little moonlight skinny dipping. We all know how that turned out, and audiences became so horrified and fascinated that some, even today, have trouble going into the water. Jaws was a watershed film, a monumental success born of monumental failure. The well-documented reports of problems with writing, staffing, production, and pretty much everything…

A New Twist In The Rogers “Cheaters” Lawsuit… Others Claim To have The Same Issue With Rogers

[The following is an IT Nerd commentary…] You’ll recall that a woman is suing Rogers for $600,000 claiming that Rogers exposed her affair by consolidating her Rogers cell phone bill with her now ex-husband’s  and that I didn’t think her chances of winning were all that high. The plaintiff held a news conference yesterday and claims that others have had the same issue that she has had with Rogers:
