Local Zombies take over Downtown Toronto…for the 6th time.

The 2008 Toronto Zombie Walk is in the books. What started in 2003 as a small gathering of friends culminated on Oct 19 at Trinity Bellwoods park when Zombies turned out in numbers that no one expected. Thea Munster, the Walk’s creator and organizer, said they were expecting “about 1500.” Conservative estimates put the actual number at approximately 2500.

Toronto Zombie Walk

This Sunday, October 19th marks the 6th annual Toronto Zombie Walk, the one that started it all. As chance would have it, the rgbFilter gang were having a ‘meeting’ at a local pub when the topic came up. Sitting at the next table over was Thea Munster, the creator of the now global phenomenon. We asked her to come by the studio for an interview segment, but what we’ve decided to do is bust out it’s own segment, the first half is what you’re seeing here. Enjoy! The walk starts…

Blu Ray not coming to Xbox 360 after all, because, apparently, you don’t want it.

Doth Microsoft protest too much? Last week we reported on a rumour stating that the Xbox 360 would be getting its own Blu Ray player by as early as the end of this year. And there was much rejoicing. But Microsoft has again banished that rumour to way outside the Garden of Things I Actually Want, and reminded all of us, the consumers, that you bought your 360 to play GAMES on, not watch movies. As we’ve said before, Microsoft has no plans to introduce an Xbox 360 Blu-ray add-on….

Forget button-mashing or Wiimote-waggling; The future of gaming is all in your head

The Tokyo Game Show in Japan wrapped up last Sunday, leaving in its wake a a record 879 new titles and updates designed to please pretty much everyone. Nintendo is a perennial no-show at TGS, but that didn’t stop developers from debuting a slew of games for the DS. In fact, the number of DS games debuted topped the list of titles for any platform. Perhaps not surprisingly, the next strongest showing was for mobile phone games. Despite this year’s lame theme, “Ready for GAME time” (I guess the title…

Xbox 360 To Get Blu-Ray Player?

As we’ve discussed before, Blu Ray is not making the kinds of inroads Sony was predicting by this point in the game, but if the latest rumour is to be believed, the consumer electronics giant may be getting a leg up from it’s console competitor, Microsoft. Xbit Labs is reporting that Toshiba-Samsung Storage Technology Corp (yep, HD-DVD’s Toshiba) has been contracted to make an external Blu Ray player for the Xbox 360, and that the target price is aiming to be $100 – $150 US. It is still unclear when…

Why It’s Hard to Hate Google

Because they do things like this [quoted from the company’s ‘unofficial’ human web portal, Matt Cutts]… Randall Monroe, the creator of xkcd, suggested that if YouTube commenters had to listen to their comments read back to them aloud, it might lead to better discussion on YouTube. Some Googlers thought that was a pretty fun suggestion, so they did it. YouTube now has an audio preview so you can listen to your comment before you post it. I love that Google had the sense of humor to add this feature. Click…

Bill C-61 To Return?

(original image found at Wikipedia Commons) Though we try not to stray into party politics, digital copyright and internet issues are important to everyone. With the federal election a week away, it’s worth pointing out where each of the parties stand on the issue. We’ve discussed C-61 before, a nasty piece of legislation reform also known as the “DMCA of Canada”. The Bill caused the formation of a number of groups fighting against it, but ultimately died on the table when a federal election was called about a month ago….

Nuit Blanche turns Downtown Toronto into a massive art piece with the city as its canvas

© 2008 Miles Storey/Torontoist via www.torontoist.com I hear a lot of people complain about Toronto. I hear that it’s an urban wasteland with no soul. I hear that it’s exclusively for yuppies who wish they lived in New York. I hear it’s bland and uninteresting and there’s just plain nothing to do. All I have to say to that is, Nuit Blanche. While neither the alpha nor the omega of Toronto’s incredible yet oft-untapped subculture, Nuit Blanche stands out to me as an exceptional example of what can happen when…
