Telus releases the rugged Motorola DEFY Android phone

Already available on T-Mobile in the US since November 2010, Motorola has decided to bring the rugged DEFY to Canada. This mid-range Android smartphone stands out from the competition in one major way – its durability. It has a scratch proof Gorilla Glass screen, is water-resistant, dust-proof, and can take a few more drops than your average smartphone. However keep in mind water-resistant doesn’t mean water-proof, so I wouldn’t suggest trying to duplicate the conditions of the image above! While the DEFY is certainly not a cutting edge Android phone,…

Is Grey Goo the New Yellow Peril or Just Another Red Dawn?– Future, how I fear thee, let me count the ways. Long before one succumbs to future shock there is future anxiety. To the best of our knowledge we are the only species on the planet that builds fallout shelters, frets about asteroid collisions and establishes religions that posit an end to the world. If you are waiting for some ethologist to post “Apocalyptic Cultism Among Ring Tailed Lemurs”  you are going to wait a long time and either…

Am I getting an iPad? Well that’s a fairly loaded question, filled with doubts and questions as to the practicality of such a purchase. I mean, it’s not a phone, and it’s not a laptop, and given that my day job means I spend a lot of time in teh photoshopz, the iPad doesn’t really fill a productivity niche for me, short of the ability to present concepts and materials to a small group in a quiet room. But that doesn’t mean I don’t want one.

Since then, the company has continued to add both TV and film titles at a fairly brisk pace. Another concern for many was the restictive caps most Canadian internet users face from their providers.

Saturday Morning Science 008

“…a warm little pond” That simple image of a lukewarm puddle comes from a letter that Charles Darwin wrote to botanist Joseph Hooker in 1871, wherein he speculated on the possible, purely chemical origins of life. It is often said that all the conditions for the first production of a living organism are present, which could ever have been present. But if (and Oh! what a big if!) we could conceive in some warm little pond, with all sorts of ammonia and phosphoric salts, light, heat, electricity, etc., present, that…
