Leaked Dead Rising 2 vid appears to be the real deal

Shaky McCameraPhone is at it again. Recently this video appeared on YouTube claiming to be the leaked trailer for the upcoming Dead Rising 2. If you’re a horror-survivalist and a fan of anything Undead, then it’s pretty much a lock that Dead Rising was, for you, some of the most fun you’ve had playing video games in a very long time…provided you’re a 360 owner. Now, after much speculation, Capcom has indeed announced that DR2 is in fact in development, and headed out of the mall and into the streets…

YouTube for Television released for PS3 and Wii, sort of

If you’re like me, the only exercise you often get on a Saturday afternoon is when you take a break from playing video games to walk into the next room where your computer lives and check out some videos on the Interwebz. Now, if you have either a PS3 or a Wii, YouTube has effectively robbed you of that 15 seconds of pure raw cardio by quietly offering up Youtube for Television, currently in Beta and advertised as only available for the aforementioned systems. Technically, the phrase “only available for…

Useless Product of the Day: Philip’s 21:9 CINEMA TV

Ever watch a movie on your 16:9 LCD or Plasma TV only to be disappointed to see the black bars above and below the picture? That’s because the movie you’re watching was shot in glorious 2.35:1 aspect ratio, so the picture has to fit in the vertical centre of the screen. “But rye”, you say. “That’s why I bought a widescreen TV in the first place; to avoid those annoying bars!” Well, apparently Philips feels your pain, and now proudly presents the Philips Cinema, a 56″ superwide screen that does…

Ralph Bakshi: Tips on Surviving In Tough Times

Are you a creative struggling to stay afloat in harsh economic times? The guys over at Fanboy have posted a very interesting article that might appeal to you. In it, Ralph Bakshi, director of (what is potentially my favourite animated film of all time) Fritz the Cat and the grossly underrated Cool World, talks Lee Adama-style about seeing this situation as not a tragedy but an opportunity to seek out strange, new worlds. (Yes, I’m mixing my metaphors.) Essentially, his core message is, “If the industry isn’t working for you,…

Low Tech Rules: Stop-Mo Animation all the rage again

StopMo animation is enjoying a ranaissance of sorts, it would seem. First there’s the absolutely brilliant MUTO by BLU, then the “Box” ad for Audi. And of course, there’s the ever tasty Robot Chicken. Today, I was introduced to a video that pre-dates any of the above; the video for Sia’s “breathe me”, which can’t be called anything but art. I’m not gonna lie here…I think I might have wept a little bit.* Check out how her lips actually sync to the music. If that’s all in-camera…damn. However, the calibre…

Apple allowing 3rd party web browsers into App Store. All in all, it’s another brick out of the wall.

It seems Apple’s policy of not allowing any application that replicates the functionality of an Apple iPod Touch/iPhone application into the App Store is relenting. Back in November, Apple quietly allowed admission of an app called BdEmailer, an alternative to Apple’s “MAIL” app that supports client SMTP, apparently duplicating (and improving upon) Apple’s client…or so the blogosphere would believe. A quick visit to the app dev’s site shows that BdEmailer is designed for outgoing mail only. Reading incoming mail is not part of its functionality. Now, Apple has opened up…

Palm Pre will have its own online catalogue of Apps, cleverly named the “App Catalogue”.

Is the Pre the Smartphone for the Rest Of Us?…wait…that’s not right… As if there was ever any doubt, Palm has announced that they will in fact be providing an online application retail outlet for the new WebOS-powered Palm Pre, which they have dubbed the “App Catalogue.” The fact that this was coming was essentially a no-brainer, but the big question is, does Palm intend the Catalogue to be a walled-garden-type store from which all Pre owners must purchase software, or will it be simply an available option, leaving users…

An rgbFilter Review: Playstation 3’s Wireless Keypad

It’s no secret that communicating via text chat during online play is an integral part of gaming, and that the hunt & peck method of text inputting is a massive pain in the ass. You COULD use a USB keyboard, but playing online with a full-sized QWERTY on your lap the whole time is impractical, at best. Microsoft recognized the need for a text input device back in May ’07 and gave us the 360 Chatpad, effectively solving all our online chatting needs. Never one to admit its been outdone,…

“Star Wars: A Musical Journey” a reality. I have a bad feeling about this.

It’s actually not as bad as it might sound. In Star Wars: A Musical Journey, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will play a live score as excerpts from the six films are shown on a cinema screen. The show has been put together by director George Lucas’ company Lucasfilm and composer John Williams. It will premiere at the O2 arena in London in April before a European tour. It will not be a traditional musical with actors playing characters from the films, but will feature live narrators.(BBC) So at least we’re…

YouTube goes widescreen, and it’s about time

If you’ve been to YouTube since yesterday, you’ll have noticed a change to the window in which you waste some time watching Dramatic Chpmunk, Baby Panda or the Numa Numa guy: They’re all now being presented in widescreen. The YouTube Blog explains the reason for the change: We’re expanding the width of the page to 960 pixels to better reflect the quality of the videos you create and the screens that you use to watch them. This new, wider player is in a widescreen aspect ratio which we hope will…
