变换并且铺开 (or, “Transform and Roll Out!”)

(This image has very little to do with this article; I just thought it was funny. Stolen from gwjokes.) If you’re like the rest of the film-loving world who has an affinity for giant metamorphic interplanetary-war-fighting robots, you recognize that Michael Bay’s blow-em-up-real-good Transformers movie, um, sucked. Personally, I enjoyed putting my brain in cruise control for a couple of hours and was admittedly blown away by the effects in the flick, but on 2nd (and 3rd, and 4th, and 5th…I like robots) viewing, it’s plainly obvious Bay couldn’t make…

No fee for carriage, says CRTC

Originally published in Marketing Magazine, October 31, 2008 | By Canadian Press, with files from Chris Powell The CRTC says Canadians will get more choices in the television programs they watch at no additional cost under new rules the broadcast regulator plans to introduce. The federal regulator’s vision of Canadian television in the future would allow cable and satellite operators to provide a wider menu of conventional and specialty channels, as long as the entire package contains at least 51% Canadian content. CRTC chairman Konrad von Finckenstein said Thursday there…

Guitar Hero: World Tour wants you to be a real Rock Ban…um, musician.

Logitech is taking a step into the Real Zone with their Premiere Edition guitar for Guitar Hero: World Tour. This Premiere Edition peripheral features a wooden neck, rosewood fingerboard, metal frets, metal tuning pegs, a one-piece contoured shape and crimson body. More importantly, for us at least, are quiet buttons – using some noise-reducing rubber keyboard technology – and a touch-sensitive neck slider. (eurogamer)

Local Zombies take over Downtown Toronto…for the 6th time.

The 2008 Toronto Zombie Walk is in the books. What started in 2003 as a small gathering of friends culminated on Oct 19 at Trinity Bellwoods park when Zombies turned out in numbers that no one expected. Thea Munster, the Walk’s creator and organizer, said they were expecting “about 1500.” Conservative estimates put the actual number at approximately 2500.

Blu Ray not coming to Xbox 360 after all, because, apparently, you don’t want it.

Doth Microsoft protest too much? Last week we reported on a rumour stating that the Xbox 360 would be getting its own Blu Ray player by as early as the end of this year. And there was much rejoicing. But Microsoft has again banished that rumour to way outside the Garden of Things I Actually Want, and reminded all of us, the consumers, that you bought your 360 to play GAMES on, not watch movies. As we’ve said before, Microsoft has no plans to introduce an Xbox 360 Blu-ray add-on….

Forget button-mashing or Wiimote-waggling; The future of gaming is all in your head

The Tokyo Game Show in Japan wrapped up last Sunday, leaving in its wake a a record 879 new titles and updates designed to please pretty much everyone. Nintendo is a perennial no-show at TGS, but that didn’t stop developers from debuting a slew of games for the DS. In fact, the number of DS games debuted topped the list of titles for any platform. Perhaps not surprisingly, the next strongest showing was for mobile phone games. Despite this year’s lame theme, “Ready for GAME time” (I guess the title…

Nuit Blanche turns Downtown Toronto into a massive art piece with the city as its canvas

© 2008 Miles Storey/Torontoist via www.torontoist.com I hear a lot of people complain about Toronto. I hear that it’s an urban wasteland with no soul. I hear that it’s exclusively for yuppies who wish they lived in New York. I hear it’s bland and uninteresting and there’s just plain nothing to do. All I have to say to that is, Nuit Blanche. While neither the alpha nor the omega of Toronto’s incredible yet oft-untapped subculture, Nuit Blanche stands out to me as an exceptional example of what can happen when…

Another rgbFilter Review: Knight Rider

Wednesday nights, 8:00 PM Eastern, NBC (Global) (official site) If you’re of a similar age to mine, then you remember being transfixed in the living room on any given weeknight watching what would become some of the most iconic characters of your adult life being introduced to the world for the first time. There was B.A. Barracus of the A-Team, Remington Steele, MacGyver, and of course, my personal favourite, KITT from Knight Rider.

The “Podcaster” lesson: Users want more than Apple’s Walled Garden allows

As we’ve discussed before…and before…and before, Apple’s practice of blacklisting applications from its App Store is something of a controversial move on the part of the Cupertino-based technology company that once described its products as “the computer for the rest of us”, and told us that their company will be “nothing like 1984”.

K.I.T.T.napped

From the “No FREAKIN’ way” files: The modified Mustang used in NBC’s new show Knight Rider has apparently been stolen, right out from under the noses of the people protecting it. The event was caught on video. You can see it here, and also from across the street here. There’s also a video of the aftermath here. In case you’re curious, yes, I AM laughing as I type this.
