A few weeks ago a Best Buy Mobile flyer (see the flyer image by clicking more below) showed a mysterious LG handset called the IQ. This mystery was quickly solved when it was discovered that this was the HSPA Windows Mobile ‘Monaco’ QWERTY slider, previously rumored to be coming to AT&T in the US. Today The Mobile Ninja’s posted a gallery with lots of of images of the phone – hopefully a hands-on will follow. Telus lauches Blackberry Storm 2. More Polar bear jokes ensue.

Telus launched the Canadian-made premium touch screen smartphone, the Blackberry Storm 2, on Wednesday. The original storm was considered RIM’s answer to the threat of touch screen phones, like the iPhone, and was not considered a big success. With the new Storm, RIM has applied the lessons learned from their first attempt – the Storm 2 runs the latest Blackberry OS 5, has more memory, Wi-Fi and an improved ‘Sure Press’ touch-screen. Since RIM has not officially launched a North American frequency HSPA Storm 2, Telus is launching it on…

Left 4 Dead 2 is out, and is all that and more

Valve unlocked Left for Dead 2 at midnight, on November 17th, for those who pre-ordered, and pre-loaded the game. I somehow forgot this fact, despite having done the former and latter, so the first thing I did when I got home tonight was play the game. Though I have only had time to play a for few hours, it’s defintely going to be my new gaming addiction. As said, in our review of the demo, L4D 2 takes all that you loved from the first game (you did buy the…

8 bit Left 4 Dead. I don’t think Nintendo would have released this…

This, believe it or not, is a real game, coming from EricRuthGames early next year. The flagship title of the PixelForce NES de-makes is Valve’s Left 4 Dead. This game play footage gives you an idea of what the project looks like in action and how it plays. As you can see, it’s a standard top-down 4 directional action/shooter. Remade in the NES retro style, the resolution is at 256 x 240 and features 16 colors and a 4 sound channel soundtrack. Now, let’s just get this out of the…

Motorola Droid (Milestone) coming to Canada in January, exclusively on Telus

On Friday, November the 6th, the heavily hyped Android 2.0 Droid smartphone launched on the largest US carrier, Verizon. The Droid is another phone in the long list of iPhone killers, but unlike the other pretender’s to this crown, it really seems to have all the right mix of features and cool to succeed – with commercials like this, these, and good early reviews here and here. However the biggest news for Canadians is the news that Droid will be coming to Canada in Q1 2010. When I started writing…

Telus HSPA network off to rocky start, iPhone and HTC Hero in tow

A day after Bell’s Nov 4th launch of their new HSPA network Telus’ went live. Like Bell, Telus’ flagship handset is the iPhone, but unlike Bell the remaining handset selection is a lot slimmer at the moment, lacking any lower end phones. Telus is exclusively selling the HTC Hero, an Android 1.5 phone, and the LG BL40 ‘New’ Chocolate, and with Bell they have the Blackberry Bold 9700 and like Rogers the Nokia E71 qwerty. Hopefully this line up will expand, and there are already unconfirmed rumours that the Samsung…

Awesome trailer for a game I have never heard of until today

Futuremark, creators of the industry standard benchmarking tools 3D Mark and PC Mark, apparently have be working on a game, something that many people would hope they would do, given the quality of the ‘demos’ in their tools. I for one however was totally unaware that this dream had actually become a reality until today, when I saw this trailer. Excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the floor. Shattered Horizon is a zero G online only FPS. This is a PC only title, and with graphics like…

Telus Officially Announces HSPA and iPhone Launch Date: Nov 5th

After many months of internet fed rumours, which most of time should be taken with a grain of salt, Telus and Bell let the news drop that they would start selling the iPhone on their new HSPA network in November. Today Telus finally clarified the exact date, November 5th. They also announced the other handsets that they would be launching, since the iPhone isn’t the end all and be all for everyone. One of them is the (exclusive to Telus) HTC Hero, the hotly anticipated Android phone running HTC’s slick…

Out of Left Field comes Planetside 2 – now with Micro Payments!

Totally out of the blue I received an email from SOE about a game I have not played in many years, Planetside. This was an online persistent world FPS, very much inspired by Tribes, that was far ahead of its time in many ways…and despite not being a huge success it captured a loyal core audience of fans who still play today. While many other attempts at melding MMO and FPS have tried and failed, Planetside still soldiers on.
