Xbox LIVE Gold Family Subscription coming in November

Microsoft will be rolling out the new Xbox LIVE Gold Family subscription in November of 2010.  The new plan, priced at $99 US, is about the same price as 2 regular 12 month subscriptions, but gives you four separate accounts. It’s obviously targeted at families, not friends pooling to save some money on their subscription, as there will be a primary (or parent) account that will be able to dole out the MS Points to the secondary (or children) accounts.  The parent account will also be able to monitor the…

E3 2010 – keynote round up.

Even though you may have seen live blogs of the major keynotes from E3 this year, you may have missed some of the details, or even the nuance of having something told to you second hand. Luckily most of those keynotes can still be seen online. Now you can play the Sony and Microsoft keynotes side by side and decide who looks goofier, someone using Kinect, or someone using Move. In order of appearence: Microsoft – Electronic Arts – Ubisoft Nintendo – Sony – Kinect

Halo: Reach E3 2010 Campaign Trailer

One of the highlights from today’s Microsoft was also the swan song for the Microsoft/Bungie relationship. Even though Halo: Reach has been known to be the last game in the Halo universe from Bungie (Microsoft still owns the IP), it looks like the venerable developer is going out with a bang. The prequel to the Halo story, about the fall of Reach, will introduce space combat for the first time. Halo: Reach should hit stores Sept 14th, 2010

Xbox E3 2010 keynote highlights

Microsoft’s keynote at this year’s E3 (the Electronic Entertainment Expo, don’t you know), is probably the biggest one in the past few years, on a number of levels.  Of course, all the big titles were trotted out, including Bungie’s final installment of the Xbox franchise, Halo: Reach, which looks like it’s adding space battles.  Other big titles on display include the latest in the Gears of War and Fable franchises.  There was even some footage from Metal Gear Solid: Rising. Although the games never take a back seat at E3,…

Microsoft launches Mission 4 Miracles

Giving begins at the console? It could be, as Microsoft launches Mission 4 Miracles, a new fund raising and awareness initiative for Children’s Miracle Network on Tuesday.  Gamers will be able to use their Xbox Live points to donate money to the network of 14 children’s hospitals via the 360. In return the generous player will get access to exclusive content, including exclusive GamerPics and themes created by graffiti artist Patrick Thompson.  Additionally, there’ll be chances to  participate in special “Game With Fame” events throughout the summer.  If you’re not…

HP TouchSmart tm2 review

So after waiting for the reveal of Apple’s once “mythical” tablet to be revealed, only to end up being as disappointed as Japanese Anne of Green Gables fans after traveling half way around the world to see the real deal, I decided I was going to buy a Windows based tablet. The Microsoft Courier looked interesting but a bit out there and the HP Slate looked rocking although a bit underspec’d. I decided to hold out for the Slate.

Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood details emerge

I know I wasn’t the only one at rgbFilter who unsurprised, but still a little frustrated at the cliffhanger ending to Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed II.  Well, Ubi has come out with some news about the follow-up, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood.  The game continues Ezio’s story as a full-fledged Assassin, focusing on fighting the corruption in Rome,  around beginning of the 16th century… so no, not THAT corruption… Besides continuing Ezio’s story, the game will introduce a new multiplayer component.  Although the details are scarce, players will be able help the Assassins…

Forza 3 Exotic Car pack available

If you’re a racing game fan, and have a 360, you’re doing yourself a disservice if you haven’t already picked up Forza 3.  It’s one of the few racing games I actually enjoy on any console (Pole Position on Colecovision not withstanding).  That being said, a new pack of 10 exotic cars have been made available on Xbox Live, for 400 points, which amounts to about $5.  To be honest, I know so little about exotic cars that I THINK I’ve heard of one or two from the list, which…

Halo: Reach beta impressions

The mulitplayer beta Halo: Reach, available for free to Halo 3: ODST owners, was released yesterday. If the beta is any indication, Bungie’s last installment of the franchise is going to be a high point.  I’ve always enjoyed the Halo series, but mainly for the single player experience.  Every game in the Halo franchise has had good multiplayer, which is a large reason why it’s been successful for so long. Last night, after playing Reach for much longer than I expected to, I have to say that this is the…

Telus bringing IPTV to Xbox 360 in Canada

If the source over at gamefocus.ca is right, it looks like Telus will be bringing an IPTV solution to Canadian Xbox 360 users, which is currently being tested and should hit the market in 2011.  Other than finding out that it’s Telus, as opposed to Bell or Rogers, there’s not too much new to see.  It doesn’t sound like the 360 would be used to do the recording.  Instead, the Telus TV HD PVR would handle the recording, and the 360 would be used as an interface for one of…

Windows Media Center in HDTVs, Xbox Live TV around the corner… dare I say “synergy”?

Microsoft has talked in the past of making the Xbox 360 an ‘all-in-one’ set top device, capable of providing DVR and TV capabilities, but little substance has come from it. Now, Game Focus is reporting that according to their own trusted source, that an Xbox live TV service will be coming to both the US and Canada by 2011, and that this would work in conjunction with a major telecommunications company, which narrows it down to basically Rogers or Bell.  Users will have access to live TV feeds, recording capabilities…

RIM announces Blackberry 9100 Pearl 3G, coming in May to Bell, Telus and Rogers

This week Research in Motion (RIM), is holding their annual WES event, in sunny Orlando, instead of Waterloo Ontario. On Tuesday they announced their new Blackberry OS 6, which we posted a video of a few posts below. OS 6 is coming later this year, and is RIM’s attempt to catch up to Android, iPhone and Windows Phone 7. Also announced were 2 new handsets, the new Bold 9650, a refresh of last years CDMA Tour, with the optical track-pad, and more RAM (in preparation for OS 6). More interestingly…
