Prince Of Persia: The Forgotten Sands gameplay video

The new Prince of Persia, due out in May, helps fill in the seven year gap between The Sands Of Time and Warrior Within, as seen in the new trailer, which has both gameplay footage and developer commentary. From the looks of it, it’s very much in the Warrior Within vein design-wise. Interesting to note that to build the game, Ubisoft Montreal made use of their in-house Anvil engine, which allows for up to 50 enemies on screen at one time. Besides the classic parkour style action, there’s some new…

Don’t turn on your PS3 for now: UPDATE – fixed

The widespread PS3 errors have been narrowed down, as expected, to a clock-related bug, at least that’s what Sony believes. In short, if you own an older “phat” PS3 (aka not the Slim), Sony is recommending that you do not turn on the console at all untill they announce a fix. So if you were planning on heading home today and firing up Heavy Rain, Bioshock 2, or watch a BluRay, you’re going to have to hold out just a little bit longer. We believe we have identified that this…

PS3 outage a leap year bug?

Late yesterday, reports started appearing across the social networks and message boards of PS3 owners losing trophy information and the console being unable to play game discs. At first it was suspected that this was due to an outage of the Playstation Network (PSN). Most users reported getting the 8001050F error code, and even booting up without a network connection doesn’t alleviate the problem. As more info has leaked out, it appears the problem is limited to the older ‘phat’ PS3 models, as PS3 Slim users haven’t noticed the same…

Bioshock 2, Darwinia+ out this week

It’s February, so you know it’s that time of year when ‘big’ games rarely get released.  Except that 2K’s Bioshock 2 launches tomorrow on the Xbox 360, PS3 and Windows.  Continuing (sort of) the story from the original Bioshock, the sequel will also bring Rapture-themed multiplayer variant to the franchise, thanks to London Ontario game studio Digital Extremes. Also launching this week on XBLA is Darwinia+, the console version of award winning, genre-bending Darwinia.  You can catch the trailer for that

Fallout New Vegas: Fall 2010

Bethesda Softworks, makers of Fallout 3 have released the above teaser trailer for the all new “Fallout: New Vegas”, which is being developed by Obsidian Entertainment. This is noteable because Obsidian is made up of many former developers from Black Isle Studios, the creators of the original Fallout.  It certainly hits many of the same stylistic notes as Fallout 3, with the “golden oldies” soundtrack and retro-future look, and with Obsidian on board will hopefully stay truer to its ‘traditional’ RPG roots than Fallout 3 did. Needless to say, this has…

Transformers: War for Cybertron is the Transformers video game you might actually WANT to play

Not since Hot Rod opened up the Matrix of leadership to the haunting tune of “You Got the Touch” have I been so moved by anything Transformers related. It’s not because I’m some kind of callow emotionless jerk-bot. It’s because anything transformers-related since 1986 has, um, sucked. But the Transformers: War for Cybertron game trailer looks like it wants to buck that trend. Featuring the voice of Peter Cullen and some cameo appearances by what appears to be Omega Supreme, the trailer appears to ramp up the battle scenes in…

Dark Void demo launches this week

Whether you’ve heard of Dark Void before or not, if you have a PS3 or Xbox 360, this is your lucky week.  Those who know already have the date bookmarked.  If you’re not familiar with the title, Dark Void basically a 3rd person action adventure game, mixing that old-tymey art style of Bioshock with interdimensional sci-fi monsters.  Like most 3rd person shoots, it makes use of a Gears of War cover mechanism, adding a vertical cover mechanic into the mix. Why vertical cover?  Oh, probably because your character has a…

Assassin’s Creed II: First Impressions

One of the most anticipated gaming titles of the year was finally released this week… and Assassin’s Creed 2 has a LOT of hype to live up to for some… and a LOT to apologize for to others.  In 2007, the first game was greeted with polarized impressions, best summed up by Zero Punctuations review. Despite its glaring flaws, I was a HUGE fan of the Creed and after grinding through the first level of the sequel, my impressions thus far are nothing short of smitten. I wont get into…

Alice sequel teased, twisted

American McGee’s Alice, the nicely twisted third person game that put an extra dose of creepiness into the Alice In Wonderland world back in 2000, finally had a sequel announced by EA back in February of 2009.  Now the first teaser trailer, courtesy of developers Spicy Horse has been put online at the teaser Return Of Alice site (the main URL is showing black at the moment). Given the capabilities of hardware these days, I’m hoping that the game itself will have the same creepy stop motion style as the…

Assassin’s Creed: Lineage Part 1 short film online

Remember when Ubisoft bought Hybride, the Montreal based studio that did effects work for Sin City, 300 and other films?  Besides continuing work on film effects, one of the fruits of that purchase is now available to watch online, in the form of Assassin’s Creed: Lineage. There’s also a good interview with Ubisoft’s UK marketing director talking about the convergence of games and film… “So the beauty of something like Lineage is that it allows us to take a lot of the assets developed for the in-game engine and create…
