Crytek releases CryENGINE 3

On October 14th, Crytek announced the release of CryENGINE 3, for use in the creation of 3D content.  What makes it interesting is that it’s capable of creating a unified development platform for delivery not just to the PC, but the Xbox 360 and PS3 as well.  IF they can live up to that promise, this should drastically shorten development times for licensees.  The promo trailer is certainly impressive… CryENGINE 3 also introduces CryENGINE 3 Live Create™. It allows developers to work with a single editor, but see and play…

Brutal Legend: In The Beginning…

A corporate merger, lawsuits and counter lawsuits couldn’t keep Brütal Legend finally making its way onto your gaming console.  The action game starring the voice and caricaturized semblance of Jack Black, sees the demo released for both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 tomorrow, Sept 17th.  The above video, of the first five minutes of the game (no axe shredding gameplay) will either have you hitting refresh on your Demos page, or saying “Too much Mr. Black, Jack”, depending on your sensibilities.  Personally, I’m leaning towards the former. Cheapest way to get a Blu-Ray Player? Part 1 (And no, stealing one doesn’t count)

Okay, it’s been a long while since I lasted posted an article, so here goes… This article is based on something I’ve been thinking about for a while now.  With more and more movies coming out on Blu-Ray, it is getting really tempting to pick up a Blu-Ray player (it’s a battle that’s still raging with me, but that’s another story).  But since most of my hard-earned cash is going towards bills and such, that got me thinking… Let’s say you’ve spent your hard-earned cash on a beautiful big screen…

Assassin’s Creed II: November 17

Mark your Julian calendar, because this November Assassin’s Creed II hits the shelves. Gameplay footage was shown off at the Sony presser today at E3. This time round you’re fast forwarding through time to play Rennaisance man Enzio (I’m only assuming he’s a relative of Altair’s). Playing Q to Enzio’s Bond is none other than Leonardo Da Vinci, tricking the surprisingly flashy assassin with flying wings and a gun… it’s at least somewhat era plausible though. That, and if the footage from today is any hint, Enzio will be able…

Sony’s E3 Conference: A little more of the same

Sony’s Jack Tretton took the E3 stage today to tell us all about Sony’s new offerings for 2009. After bragging about the upcoming ~350 games (including 35 exclusives) for the PS3, PS2 and PSP, and the (fact?) that the PS3 is the only console powerful enough to make use of the stage’s 40×80 foot screen, and the usual “we’re doing awesome” rhetoric, he cut to the chase.

FrankenGame inFAMOUS looks like it might be fun

Far be it from the lads at rgbFilter to pander to the whims of the game development community, but since we freely admit that we have yet to accept dime one from ANY game developer (or to be honest, anyone at all, much to Alex’s chagrin), I can honestly say that this preview I’m about to write comes from a place of total discretion and honesty. And that preview is simply this: inFAMOUS looks fucking awesome. InFAMOUS Channels the essences of some of my fave time-wasters of the past few…

YouTube for Television released for PS3 and Wii, sort of

If you’re like me, the only exercise you often get on a Saturday afternoon is when you take a break from playing video games to walk into the next room where your computer lives and check out some videos on the Interwebz. Now, if you have either a PS3 or a Wii, YouTube has effectively robbed you of that 15 seconds of pure raw cardio by quietly offering up Youtube for Television, currently in Beta and advertised as only available for the aforementioned systems. Technically, the phrase “only available for…

An rgbFilter Review: Playstation 3’s Wireless Keypad

It’s no secret that communicating via text chat during online play is an integral part of gaming, and that the hunt & peck method of text inputting is a massive pain in the ass. You COULD use a USB keyboard, but playing online with a full-sized QWERTY on your lap the whole time is impractical, at best. Microsoft recognized the need for a text input device back in May ’07 and gave us the 360 Chatpad, effectively solving all our online chatting needs. Never one to admit its been outdone,…

Metal Gear Solid 4 via Zero Punctuation

Yahtzee’s Zero Punctuation reviews are NEVER safe for work. Even if you’re not a gamer, they’re always worth watching. In the latest one, he talks MGS4, succinctly compiling all the criticisms of the game in one juicy little nugget, and stripping out all the gushing fanboyism that’s required of many gamings sites that are more concerned about their advanced copies and advertising revenue than their journalistic integrity.

GTA IV Release

Grand Theft Auto IV could possibly beat Halo 3’s record smashing one day media cash cow extravaganza, especially when GTA IV has been released on both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 on the same day. Halo 3 took in $300 million in one day, and GTA IV is estimated to top $400 million. Some pretty cool pics from the Toronto GTA IV pre-release event. Post photo courtesy of wv on flickr, who’s got a couple of more cool pics to boot.
