Win a Telus Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate 4G, launches tommorow

While there is some controversy to the use of 4G as a label for current 3.5g networks, the Telus Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate 4G (what a mouthful!) when it launches tomorrow will certainly be the ‘fastest’ phone in Canada. With 21 Mbps HSPA+ download speeds, this minor revision to the super popular Galaxy S series of phones sports the same 4″ Super-AMOLED screen, 1Ghz processor, 5MP camera, and still runs only Android 2.2. This is a little disappointing, since Gingerbread (Android 2.3) has been available for quite some time now. Samsung has however…

Telus releases the rugged Motorola DEFY Android phone

Already available on T-Mobile in the US since November 2010, Motorola has decided to bring the rugged DEFY to Canada. This mid-range Android smartphone stands out from the competition in one major way – its durability. It has a scratch proof Gorilla Glass screen, is water-resistant, dust-proof, and can take a few more drops than your average smartphone. However keep in mind water-resistant doesn’t mean water-proof, so I wouldn’t suggest trying to duplicate the conditions of the image above! While the DEFY is certainly not a cutting edge Android phone,…

Bell and Virgin Mobile release the HTC Incredible S and Bell updates Mobile TV

The HTC Incredible S is now available on both Bell and Virgin Mobile. This Android smartphone, the latest from HTC, was first shown at this year’s Mobile World Conference, on Feb 15th. It is incredible, then, that it came out in Canada so quickly. We usually have to wait at least 2 to 3 months for the latest phones to get here from the US and Europe.

Acer Liquid mt (Metal) on Rogers review

Over the past couple of years, Android has managed to not only grow, but thrive. Google’s phone OS is now the best selling smartphone OS in the US, and shows no signs of slowing down. With this growth, it’s not surprising that manufacturers of all stripes are trying to establish a name in the smartphone market, as the category shows nothing but growth for the foreseeable future. This is where Acer comes in.

The Bell Motorola ATRIX, coming March 17th: Revolutionary, but at what cost?

When Motorola announced the ATRIX at CES, I was very excited – even more so when they followed up that announcement with news that it was coming to Canada on Bell. Up to that point, as a long-time Milestone (Droid to our US readers) user, though, I had been a little disappointed in Motorola. They had seemed to have forgotten about Canada. Both the Droid X and Droid 2 were released in the US last year, but they never came up north. By year’s end, it was almost like Motorola…

Dell Streak ‘Pocket Tablet’ launches on Rogers

The Dell Streak. What an interesting journey this odd device has had. Originally previewed by Dell as far back as CES in January, this 5” Android phone launched in Europe in June. Initial enthusiasm for this device was dulled by the fact that Dell inexplicably decided to launch it with Android 1.6, but the overall consensus was that the hardware was well made, and it would have potential with an OS upgrade. Then, after much confusion about whether Dell would sell it unlocked in the US, the Streak launched in…

Telus Android news round-up

Over the past week there has been some interesting Android news from Telus, and we’ve collected it all in one place, just for you. HTC Desire Android 2.2 (Froyo) update available now Telus has announced that the 2.2 Froyo update for the HTC Desire is being pushed out today through an OTA (over the air) update.  This is after a couple of false starts last week, when the update was released as a download online, then quickly pulled. Even without the update, the Desire is already in our opinion one…

Bell Samsung Galaxy Tab: Hands On Video

Although no official launch dates are announced, the Samsung Galaxy Tab is set to appear on both Rogers and Bell here in Canada, probably by the end of November.  We had a chance to get our hands on one, and came away suitably impressed. The Android based tablet, seen as the second mainstream device in the tablet behind the iPad, sports a 7 inch 1024×600 display using Samsung’s Super LCD screen technology, making it about half the size of the iPad.  Unlike the silver back of the European version, Samsung…

Telus LG Shine Plus – sneak peak video

A little while back, we got a chance to take a look at the Telus version of the LG Shine Plus, aka the LG Ally in the US.  This model of the Shine Plus is unique to Telus, and can now be found on their website.   The new smartphone sports a landscape slide out QWERTY keyboard, and a largely brushed metal body.  Though the processor may be a little underpowered compared to its 1 GHz competitors, the Shine Plus runs Android 2.1 very smoothly, and Telus is talking with LG…
