The Copyright Consultation

Remember Bill C-61, and how that ultimately died on the vine of Parliament, in large part because of public outcry?  Well, the Canadian government recently launched it’s first public consultation on copyright in almost a decade, and will be taking public input until September 13th. Palm Pre Coming To Bell August 27th

Bell originally announced the Canadian exclusive for Palm’s Pre some months ago, but they’ve finally announced availability…  starting August 27th, you can walk into a Bell Mobility store, or select (and yet to be determined) retail partners.  If you’re willing to commit to 3 years, it’ll cost you $199 + a 500MB/month data plan.  If you can’t commit that long (and we’d totally understand that), you can pay the full retail price of $599. The official announcement says that ‘due to unprecedented demand’ you’ll be able to pre-order it.

Canadian Government Brings Hammer eBay Sellers

Sellers who make use of eBay and other online sales sites will come under the scrutiny of the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA). The CRA will begin contacting eBay sellers at the end of summer to ensure compliance. In 2007, the federal court ruled that eBay must turn over information on its high volume Canadian sellers, and although eBay tried to appeal the ruling, it was rejected in April. Rogers becomes Speed Junkie with HSPA+

Rogers wireless division has announced the launch of their HSPA+ network, which will supply speeds of up to a whopping 21 Mbps. Rock Band Network Gets Sub Pop

Last week, MTV Harmonix unveiled its Rock Band Network, which allows artists to upload their music for playing on the popular music game.  Acts will have multiple options in porting their music over for the game.  They can choose to directly hire Harmonix-trained devs to come up with the note tracks, submit it to a community of freelancers, or actually take the work in-house.
