Read MoreOver the past month or more, there’s been an uptick in Net neutrality issues in the Canadian ISP space. Over the decades, Bell Canada has received untold millions in government subsidies to build out it’s infrastructure. In return, it’s is mandated by the CRTC (Canadian Radio-television & Telecommunications Commission) to lease wholesale to 3rd party companies to run their own services on Bell’s physical infranstruction. Back in March of this year, Bell announced that it would start packet shaping, or throttling bit torrent transfers ‘during peak hours’, even on these…
Read MoreDAZ Productions recently released an update to their popular 3D software DAZ Studio. There are supplied models, but there’s also a large user community of free and paid content, both characters and clothing to expand your cast. Studio also works in conjunction with most major 3D software,…

Read MoreGrand Theft Auto IV could possibly beat Halo 3’s record smashing one day media cash cow extravaganza, especially when GTA IV has been released on both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 on the same day. Halo 3 took in $300 million in one day, and GTA IV is estimated to top $400 million. Some pretty cool pics from the Toronto GTA IV pre-release event. Read MoreDirect YouTube Link I’m a sucker for sped up ‘making of’ videos. There’s something fascinating about watching distilled creativity itself that I like. The above video is the ‘making of’ Bjork’s newest music video, “Wanderlust”. Wired magazine recently posted this, as well as the video itself on their site. To view the video, you’ll have to go to their site though, as there’s both a high res 3D and 2D version, and the 3D version doesn’t compress too well. Make sure you dig up those old 3D glasses.
Read MoreRED, the makers of the hard to come by, 4K digital camera RED ONE, have made a number of new product announcements at the latest NAB show. The first big announcement is of their mini version of the ONE, dubbed the Scarlet, which shoots 3K footage to dual Compact Flash cards, at the cost of about $1000 per K (or $3000). If you’ve been drooling over the ONE, but found the $17,500 price tag a bit steep, the Scarlet might be the next best thing to sliced bread, until you…
Read MoreOnline Videos by Veoh.com The video above is a 5 minute flyby of an environment from Oblivion, chiefly intended to show off the real time rendering of the transition from day to night in the CryEngine. It’s not flashy (there’s no fireworks beyond a few burning torches), but seeing the realtime shadows moving across the landscape is impressive.
Read MoreIn the latest news regarding the Bell bandwidth throttling issue, the Canadian Association of Internet Providers (CAIP) has filed a Cease And Desist application with the CRTC, to put an end to Bell’s packet shaping. From the press release: Tom Copeland, Chair of CAIP states, ” Bell has undertaken an activity that it has no regulatory authority to do and it did so without notifying it’s wholesale ISP customers which it has a legal responsibility to do before making such changes. It did so without the knowledge of its customers…
Read MoreThe issue of net neutrality is quickly coming to a head here in Canada. It’s been long known that the largest cable internet provider Rogers has been throttling P2P activity, but since the announcement a couple of weeks ago that Bell would start throttling P2P on it’s 3rd party wholesale lines (which would affect DSL users not subscribed to Bell’s Sympatico service), there has been a lot of action. What has been largely overlooked is that not only is Bell throttling P2P, but they are, if the evidence is accurate,…
