Apple finally announced on Friday exactly when the iPad will be available internationally. It will hit Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK on May 28th, and will be up for pre-order on May 10th. Microsoft has talked in the past of making the Xbox 360 an ‘all-in-one’ set top device, capable of providing DVR and TV capabilities, but little substance has come from it. Just in, Hewlett Packard has purchased ailing smart phone maker Palm Inc. for about $1 billion in cash. Palm has been up for sale recently. In fanboy circles, yours truly included, the hope was that Taiwanese manufacturer HTC would buy Palm, and do something spectacular with Palm’s webOS. So much for that dream. HP was always considered a possible suitor for Palm. This could be a good move for the computer manufacturer, as Dell, their chief rival in the US has recently shown a strong line up of mobility hardware…

Except for a brief roundtable discussion which we published last week, we largely steered clear of the whole Gizmodo iPhone 4G leak, but recent events make it interesting to look at in a different light. This past Friday night, California’s Rapid Enforcement Allied Computer Team (REACT) police, operating under a search warrant, busted down Gizmodo editor Jason Chen’s front door home while he was out, and confiscated all his computer equipment. Asus has definitely been busy. Since my last review of the Asus O!Play Air, Asus has released a few firmware updates for it. The most notable is firmware v1.09 which surprisingly adds Internet accessible content to the O!Play Air. While it still does not add Youtube support (Asus, please, add YouTube support!!), Asus has provided apps to give access to such sites as Flickr and Picassa.
