Star Trek movie site gets updated. Still no trailer. I blame Khan.

J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek is coming, at impulse speed, to theatres next May, having dropped out of warp and therefore no longer able to make its Christmas 08 release date. The teaser’s been out for a while, and if you saw Cloverfield (and weren’t one of those people who likes to arrive late and trip over everyone’s feet as you mutter loudly through the previews that you hate it when you can’t find a good seat), then you’ve seen it. You also know it’s a pretty cool teaser (though admittedly,…

Fanboys declare Dark Knight as the ‘Greatest Movie Ever!’

Not only has The Dark Knight achieved a record highest opening weekend ever (an estimated $155 million, beating Spiderman 3’s opening in 2007), but the film is now “officially” the “Greatest Movie of All-Time”. As of midnight, Monday, over 46 000 users of The Internet Movie Database have given The Dark Knight an average score of 9.5. This puts it in the top spot of IMDB’s Top 250 Movies as Voted by Our Users list. What are these people smoking? The Dark Knight is a very good movie, and not…

Video Comics All The Rage

Is it just a matter of synchronicity, or something else? In the last couple of months, I’ve seen quite the increase in the idea of ‘video comics’, where traditionally drawn comics are turned into semi-animated stories. The original artwork is scanned in, voice actors recite the dialogue, and traditional camera techniques applied, such as faking depth of field, panning and zooming and so on. MTV just announced the video comic adaptation of the traditional print book “Invincible” which will air on MTV2, as well as be available targeted at iTunes…

Ubisoft buys Hybride

Game developer Ubisoft has purchased Montreal special effects house Hybride Technologies. According to their announcement (which I would link to here, but it’s embedded in Hybride’s flash based site): “The future of our industry depends on our ability to create brands that captivate customers and to extend our brands to other forms of entertainment,” said Yves Guillemot, chief executive officer at Ubisoft. “This alliance is a true first for the industry,” said Yannis Mallat, Ubisoft Montreal CEO. “Ubisoft and Hybride share the same vision of entertainment convergence and a common…

Mark Millar talks about the reboot of the Superman reboot

Mark Millar, the creator of the comic Wanted (a dark super villain tale superior to the movie) has been quoted in this IGN news article as being linked to the follow-up to the less than successful Superman Returns. He is quoted as saying that he has always wanted to ‘re-invent Superman for the 21st century’ and that the new movie, with a director to be announced, would be released in 2011. This, according to IGN, is in conflict with Bryan Singer’s announcement that he is going to be working on…

Bruce Campbell’s My Name Is Bruce – Coming To Theatres This Fall!

Although I’m a geek, I’ve never been a fanboy of anything, technology, music, movies. I’m much too cynical. Except when it comes to the Evil Dead movies. All my friends can attest to that. I’ll make an argument why Evil Dead 2 deserves to be on everybody’s Top Ten movie list. So, when I came across this news it was the first fanboyish trigger I’ve had in my brain in some time (probably since I bought my ticket for Bubba Ho-Tep). The Bruce Campbell movie “My Name Is Bruce”, starring…

If you aren’t already excited what’s wrong with you.

This Friday Wanted is coming to theatres. For those who might scoff at another Angelina Jolie action movie, please remember that the film is being directed by Timur Bekmambetov, know to true film geeks as the man behind the Russian movies Night Watch and Day Watch, that despite somewhat convoluted plots boasted some of the most impressive and imaginative visuals seen on the screen since the Matrix. If the Wanted is even only half as cool as the trailer makes it seem we are in for quite a (happily R-rated)…

Top Gear, the new season starts, finally!

If you have any interest in great TV then you should be watching Top Gear, the British BBC produced weekly car show and yes even if you are not into cars. Three hosts, Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond drive fast cars, interview then make celebrities drive slow cars, perform crazy stunts, go to exotic locales perfoming crazy stunts (racing a sled dog team against a 4×4 in the Artic), all with a sense of humor and chemistry that is unmatched in any presenter line up on TV. The…

The New Hockey Night in Canada theme composer revealed…and it’s YOU.

The CBC has launched Canada’s Hockey Anthem Challenge, a national contest to find a new song for its weekly hockey broadcast. The network is currently without a song after Dolores Claman, the theme’s composer, sold the jingle’s rights to CTV last week for a reported seven figures. The song will now be heard before NHL games airing on CTV-owned TSN. Canadians have until August 31 to submit their entry online, which will be available for public review and rating. At least five semifinalists will present their songs to a panel…

Who is the Green Hornet?

A quick look on Wikipedia gives an overview of the slight convoluted history of the revival of the Green Hornet, suffice to say George Clooney and Kevin Smith were both involved in the project at one time, but today I noticed this bit on ign pointing to a teaser page for…Seth Rogen as the Green Hornet! I had heard that this might happen before but had dismissed it as a silly rumor. Now that it is official I am not sure what to think…but seeing as I have never seen more…
