Read MoreMuch has been said of the Boxee Box, D-link’s fledgling foray into the world of home theatre set-top boxes, running the gamut from “streamlined” and “Polished” (agreed!) to “Disappointing” (…not so much). While it’s true that D-link’s little box has been lacking in some key areas (cough cough MUSIC PLAYER cough), when it comes to ease of use and across-the-board file compatibility, Boxee sits in a class that is simply untouchable by heavy hitters like GoogleTV, Roku, and especially AppleTV. Now, after a scant 6 months, Boxee has widened that…
Read MoreThe future’s uncertain and the end is always near. Roadhouse Blues- The Doors The silly season is well under way. Today the world is going to end. Joe Stalin engineered the Roswell saucer crash. The Centre for Disease Control went viral with a zombie attack piece. And don’t get me started about Lars Von Trier, his silly “worlds in collision” movie or his public airing of his private Fuhrerbunker. I’m glad this is a science column. I could just walk away and say none of this is on my beat….
Read MoreAlex talks with Rich Stevens, creator of the long running Diesel Sweeties webcomic, who was on hand at TCAF this year. The conversation ends up being less about comics and more about his love of robots, which shouldn’t be much of a surprise.
Read MoreE3 Is probably the biggest video game exposition, and this year it takes place June 7th to 9th in Los Angeles. That doesn’t mean you have to miss out, as Konami is hosting a series of pre-shows live across 5 different cities, including Toronto. The venue for Toronto couldn’t be more apt, as the Real Sports Bar & Grill is adorned in a slew of HDTVs, inlcuding a display over the bar itself that stands about 15 feet high, and I’m not talking about a bunch of smaller panels with seams.
Read MoreAnother universe, another copyfight. In Swap Thing 2, eloquently titled “Inception of The Social Network of Iron Men and Tron in 3D”, the Source once again finds himself doling out CDs for distribution in a world where analog may be your best bet…
Read MoreIf you haven’t already seen the HBO series Game Of Thrones, which airs in the US and Canada, I can’t highly recommend it enough. Based on George R. R. Martin’s fantasy series of novels, the setting is more medival earth in a lot of ways compared to most sword and sorcery fare. It also has an amazing title sequence which stands as a work of art in its own right.
Read MoreIt was a year ago that the Toronto Underground Cinema first opened its doors to the public with free showings of Clue and Big Trouble in Little China. Since then, the 700 seat theatre has played host to a number of events, including Gamercamp Lv2, and most recently the inaugural Star Wars Day Toronto. To celebrate its first anniversary, the Toronto Underground Cinema is opening its doors for two free movies tonight.
Read MoreThe Toronto Comic Arts Festival returns to the Toronto Reference Library this weekend. The now annual festival, unlike a typical comic convention, focuses on the diversity of work being done in the medium beyond the standard superhero fare.

Read MoreNikon was the first camera company to enable HD video recording on their D90 DSLR in 2008 and thus ushered in the ensuing frenzy that took hold of the video world. For once in the history of video cameras, there was now a sub-$7000 camera that shot 720p 24fps HD video on a sensor that dwarfed even broadcast cameras, but as well allowed people to interchange and use the seemingly endless variety of DSLR lenses! It was the independent filmmaker’s dream come true. Thus the HD-DSLRs were born.
Read MoreI don’t have much to say about Portal 2 for two reasons. First, posting spoilers for the game just feels like a bad idea. Letting you in on some of the gags or the overall trajectory of the plot would be criminal, so much so that even the requisite spoiler warning doesn’t feel like enough protection.
