Fan Expo Day 3: Videodrome Wrap Up

Fan Expo 2008 wrapped up yesterday, and we’re still reeling from it all. We’ve logged a lot of hours of footage, including what I think are some great interviews with guests from the show. Besides the already posted interviews with Tobe Hooper, Brian Bolland, Rocco and Shawn of Mega 64, Mike Pasley director of Frag, and others, we still have tons to come. Currently in the hopper are sit downs with Kevin Eastman, writer John Meadows, Major League Gaming co-founder and chairman Mike Sepso not to mention extended interviews with…

Kevin Eastman, co-creator of the iconic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and current owner and editor of Heavy Metal Magazine, is planning on bringing another Heavy Metal Movie to the big screen. The story was broken by Variety Magazine on March 13 2008, but Eastman was kind enough to give us a few more details on the production, including some director talk. The new film will include a series of vignettes, each of which will be done by a different director. Until now, only Eastman, David Fincher, and Blur Studios’ Tim…

Fan Expo Day 1: Through a Convention Centre, darkly

August 22, 2008 – 11:48 PM: Day 1 of Fan Expo is over, and what a day it was. It all started out with what was easily the finest example of poor planning and organization as we, along with several other members of the press, sat in a little room on hard plastic chairs for 5 straight hours on the promise that our press badges were going to be delivered to us “any minute now”. It absolutely has to be said that, considering its size and importance in the Convention…

Fan Expo: Indie Comic publisher “Fantasy Prone” wants to take you to a whole new world…with dinosaurs

In “United Free Worlds”, mankind discovers a new planet in our solar system and decides to colonize it. This is, apparently, a mistake. The book was written by Blake Leibel (Director & Writer, Spaceballs:  The Animated Series) and drawn by Jason Raines (Director, Spaceballs: TAS). Fantasy Prone president Lawrence Longo and staff writer Jeff Wood were kind enough to take a couple of minutes to discuss the book with us.  Check the video out here. (It’s labeled “rgb Fan Expo B”.) rgbFilter will be giving away prize packs including UFW…

More WATCHMEN eye candy from ComicCon

Our friends over at SuperHeroHype have posted the high-rez images of the Watchmen posters that were unveiled at ComicCon San Diego last week. Normally I’m no fan of showing too much of a hyped movie, especially one as touchy as Watchmen, because it only serves to build things up in one’s mind and leads to greater disappointment when things don’t pan out as one expects.  If it were up to me, my entire marketing campaign would cost 50 bucks…and would consist of nothing more than a couple quick glimpses of…

Apocalipstix Interview With Ray Fawkes and Cameron Stewart

This past Wednesday, we at rgbFilter went to the Toronto launch party for the new comic The Apocalipstix by writer Ray Fawkes and artist Cameron Stewart.  Ray and Cameron were kind enough to give Alex some time to talk to them about the comic, and other projects they have coming up. It was a great night, presented by Chris from The Beguiling.  After an intro and book signing session, the party continued with a couple of great bands, Dame and Terror Lake.  There will definitely be more coverage of the…

Fanboys declare Dark Knight as the ‘Greatest Movie Ever!’

Not only has The Dark Knight achieved a record highest opening weekend ever (an estimated $155 million, beating Spiderman 3’s opening in 2007), but the film is now “officially” the “Greatest Movie of All-Time”. As of midnight, Monday, over 46 000 users of The Internet Movie Database have given The Dark Knight an average score of 9.5. This puts it in the top spot of IMDB’s Top 250 Movies as Voted by Our Users list. What are these people smoking? The Dark Knight is a very good movie, and not…

Video Comics All The Rage

Is it just a matter of synchronicity, or something else? In the last couple of months, I’ve seen quite the increase in the idea of ‘video comics’, where traditionally drawn comics are turned into semi-animated stories. The original artwork is scanned in, voice actors recite the dialogue, and traditional camera techniques applied, such as faking depth of field, panning and zooming and so on. MTV just announced the video comic adaptation of the traditional print book “Invincible” which will air on MTV2, as well as be available targeted at iTunes…
