Rogers confirms Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 price at launch event

On Monday night, at the Revival bar in Toronto, Rogers and Sony Ericsson held and launch party for the new Xperia X10 Android handset. We were there to cover the event, and we will be posting some exclusive interviews with the President of Sony Ericsson US, Anderson Teixeira, and Raj Doshi, Rogers VP of Mobile Product Management. We also got some hands on time with the phone, and the Timescape and Mediascape UI was surprising not as laggy as some early reviews had indicated. The phone is sadly only running…

HTC HD2 review

When the HTC HD2 was released overseas last fall, it quickly gained a lot of fans. They couldn’t help but appreciate the bright, massive screen and the design of the phone itself. This included reviewers generally down on Windows Mobile 6.5. Now that the phone has officially hit North American shores via T-Mobile US, we take a look at it running on Wind Mobile here in Canada. Out Of The Box First impressions are important, and the HD2 absolutely nails it in this department. The design of the phone itself…

Very Cool: Class 3 Outbreak Flash Zombie RTS!

Built on their first release, the Zombie Outbreak Simulator, Binary Space has release their first game, the Zombie RTS Class 3 Outbreak. The game is a browser based flash game, running over Google maps, where you control 3 squads of police to try to hold back a zombie invasion. Like many flash games the graphics and gameplay are deceptively simple, but the game is highly addictive, and under the hood Class 3 is surpising sophisticated: Game designer, Jay Weston says, “We set the bar pretty high with our previous release,…

Palm ditches ad agency Modernista

Palm has decided they’ve had their fill of ads that either miss the mark with the female demographic, or just plain give a lot of people the willies.   Though I was personally a fan of the initial dreamlike, David Lynch-esque ads with Canadian actress Tamara Hope, most people found them creepy.  This is what Modernista co-founder and executive creative director Gary Koepke, who created the ads, had to say when they launched… “We weren’t trying to creep people out, but one thing I have learned now in this digital…

DHL Having a Problem with Google Nexus One Thievery

I recently ordered a Google Nexus One phone, it has been years since I have turned my back on the world of mobile gadgets but thought it’s time for me to give it another try. My excitement and mirth shot up when my phone came in a box that seemed too light to be believable. Upon opening the box, to my astonishment, I saw the Nexus One box ripped open, the phone and its accessories missing and immediately felt the palpable weight of a $600 vapor phone on my visa…

Rogers and Fido to allow free tethering with most data plans

That’s right. Rogers was running a promotion that allowed data users to tether their phone’s data to laptops and other devices for free. There was some concern that once this promotion ran out, customers would be paying extra to basically use the data that they’re already using.  If you’ve got a smartphone but have no idea what tethering does, in a nut shell it allows you to use your phone as a modem while on the road, so that you don’t have to search for open WiFi spots. Rogers had…

Copy and paste in Windows Phone 7 coming, just not now

A minor storm of controversy, at least in some quarters, has broken out as it was reported that Microsoft was excluding copy and paste from Windows Mobile 7.  Sure, only a small minority make use of it, but it’s still a feature that long time Windows Mobile users want.  It’s also somewhat ironic, since it took a couple of years for the Apple iPhone to get this basic feature.  So, when Engadget reported that it wasn’t coming, and that they had “super-double-ultra-plus-confirmed” this, it’s not surprising that hands started flailing…

Windows Phone 7 MIX 2010 impressions

Microsoft officially announced Windows Phone 7 Series (WP7S) back at Mobile World Congress this past February, but a lot of details were left out.  Now that the MIX developers conference has wrapped up, there’s a lot more to pour through, from 3rd party development to multitasking and much more. In short, there’s a lot of good new ideas in the new OS, but there are also some drawbacks, especially if you consider yourself a power user.
