Bell Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant Launch Concert featuring Metric

Wednesday August 4th: I am running late, so I’m pushing my way through the huge crowd that has gathered on Toronto’s Front Street to see a free Metric concert sponsored by Samsung. I want to get as close to the stage as possible to cover the show, but I have no idea how I’ll be able to maneuver through the crowd to get there. Thankfully there’s a fenced off VIP area that I have press access to, so in the end I manage to get some great pictures of the…

The State of Mobile Application Development

It is amazing to see the amount of enthusiasm people have for their smartphones. Many iphone users not only like their phone, but regularly put on a sales hat for Apple and convince others that the iphone stands alone in its awesomeness and to not have one is the same as losing a sense. Android too isn’t without it’s feverish supporters, though I think most are just happy to have a decent device that isn’t an iphone. It is fun to watch and participate in such meaningless fanfare, but it’s…

Box 13 comic review

Box 13 Publisher:  Red 5 Comics Review based on the trade paperback, original published on Comics by ComiXology iPhone app Writer:  David Gallaher Art:  Steve Ellis (inks), Mike Paar (colours) & Scott Brown (letters) Technologic OK, let me start by saying that Box 13, if nothing else, is a noble experiment.  Conceptually, a comic book divided up into mini issues, just 8 pages long (including cover), designed to be read on your phone is pretty freaking cool.  After all, in so many ways the comic book format seems ideally suited…

iPhone 4 Toronto launch report with video and pictures

RGB Filter was at the Toronto launch of the iPhone 4 on Friday, July 30th. However not being a die-hard Apple fanatic I wasn’t lining up for the phone myself, so I slept in and missed the 7 AM early opening at the Apple Store. When I got to the Eaton Centre, at about 7.30 AM, there was a short line outside the Bell store, waiting for that store’s 10 AM opening, a pretty long line outside Fido, and a few people outside the Rogers store. Most amusing to me…

Telus HTC Desire launches

I think that Friday August 6th 2010 can unofficially be labeled Android day in Canada.  That’s because Telus has officially launched HTC’s latest superphone, the HTC Desire, sporting the latest version of HTC Sense.  It’s also a harbinger of a possible price war to come, as it’s a solid 1GHz processor priced at $79.99, which is more than competitive with other high end phones. The new phone comes with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 5 megapixel camera (with flash), and a 3.7″ 800 x 480 screen.  We had a chance to…

I have a Double Rainbow moment with a Galaxy S phone and a Porsche 911 GT3 RS

UPDATE – The video above is in HD. My initial post of this had the incorrect SD feed. WOW! OMG Double Rainbow, a Porsche 911 GT3 RS parked near my office, shot in HD, with the Bell Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant super-phone. The footage above is raw unedited video from the Galaxy S, which is pretty good quality for a phone. You can also download the ORIGINAL HD 3gp clip here ~ 80MB, so you can see EXACTLY how the video looks direct from the phone. You can probably tell…

Bell Galaxy S launches tomorrow with event at Yonge and Eglinton

The new Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant super-phone launches tomorrow on Bell. Bell has released the pricing details, and will it will be $149.95 on a 3-year term, $499.95 no contract, which are very good prices for such a powerful phone. With it’s super AMOLED 4″ screen, fast processor, and 16GB of storage, it compares very favorably to the iPhone 4, but is much better…

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini finally released by Rogers

After a few months of rumour and speculation Rogers has officially released the latest model in Sony Ericsson’s new Android smartphone series, the X10 Mini. The Mini is the little brother of Sony’s Ericsson’s first Android phone, the X10. This phone, while having some great hardware specifications (such as a 1 GHz processor and 4″ display), was hobbled by the decision to release it with the out-dated Android 1.6 operating system. Sadly the X10 Mini follows in its brother’s footsteps, also coming with Android 1.6, running Sony’s custom Timescape UI….

Virgin HTC Legend review

HTC, once known as the go-to company for Windows Mobile devices made a wise business decision to embrace Google’s Android operating system from the very beginning, with the original G1.  Since that time, they’ve put out an almost dizzying array of phones on the platform, many of them running HTCs custom Sense interface, which first appeared on the HTC Hero. The HTC Legend, currently available on Bell and Virgin in Canada, is very much an updated version of the Hero, with a more polished design and a more current version…

iPhone 4 Canadian launch news round-up

The day has finally come for Canadian iPhone fans, as the iPhone 4 is available in Canada. Are you picking one up today? After all the controversy surrounding ‘Antennagate‘ in the US, it will be interesting to see if the problems with iPhone 4 will affect sales in Canada.
