Crytek releases CryENGINE 3

On October 14th, Crytek announced the release of CryENGINE 3, for use in the creation of 3D content.  What makes it interesting is that it’s capable of creating a unified development platform for delivery not just to the PC, but the Xbox 360 and PS3 as well.  IF they can live up to that promise, this should drastically shorten development times for licensees.  The promo trailer is certainly impressive… CryENGINE 3 also introduces CryENGINE 3 Live Create™. It allows developers to work with a single editor, but see and play…

Xbox 360 Dashboard Update Preview Reopens

As it’s done in the past, Microsoft has opened up a new round of previews for the latest Dashboard update.  The new Dashboard integrates Facebook, Twitter, Zune and other goodness, and by all accounts the Facebook interface alone is worth the (admittedly low) price of admission. To get in on the preview, which starts in about a week, you just have to fill out a short survey giving them an idea of how your gaming rig is set up (wired vs. wireless, HDTV or SDTV etc).  You’ll also need a…

Brutal Legend: In The Beginning…

A corporate merger, lawsuits and counter lawsuits couldn’t keep Brütal Legend finally making its way onto your gaming console.  The action game starring the voice and caricaturized semblance of Jack Black, sees the demo released for both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 tomorrow, Sept 17th.  The above video, of the first five minutes of the game (no axe shredding gameplay) will either have you hitting refresh on your Demos page, or saying “Too much Mr. Black, Jack”, depending on your sensibilities.  Personally, I’m leaning towards the former. Mass Effect 2 has beefed up combat system

Joystiq managed to get a hands one with Mass Effect 2 during E3 this year, and in the really good news department, they’re reporting that the combat component is a lot more ‘combatty’, or in their words, a it IS a shooter.  The game is once again being made by Bioware Edmonton, and this time round there’s a supplemental team at EA Montreal.  The original Mass Effect was the first RPG game I had played in a long time, as I had all but forsaken every other gaming type after…

Assassin’s Creed II: November 17

Mark your Julian calendar, because this November Assassin’s Creed II hits the shelves. Gameplay footage was shown off at the Sony presser today at E3. This time round you’re fast forwarding through time to play Rennaisance man Enzio (I’m only assuming he’s a relative of Altair’s). Playing Q to Enzio’s Bond is none other than Leonardo Da Vinci, tricking the surprisingly flashy assassin with flying wings and a gun… it’s at least somewhat era plausible though. That, and if the footage from today is any hint, Enzio will be able…

Leaked Dead Rising 2 vid appears to be the real deal

Shaky McCameraPhone is at it again. Recently this video appeared on YouTube claiming to be the leaked trailer for the upcoming Dead Rising 2. If you’re a horror-survivalist and a fan of anything Undead, then it’s pretty much a lock that Dead Rising was, for you, some of the most fun you’ve had playing video games in a very long time…provided you’re a 360 owner. Now, after much speculation, Capcom has indeed announced that DR2 is in fact in development, and headed out of the mall and into the streets…

Blu Ray not coming to Xbox 360 after all, because, apparently, you don’t want it.

Doth Microsoft protest too much? Last week we reported on a rumour stating that the Xbox 360 would be getting its own Blu Ray player by as early as the end of this year. And there was much rejoicing. But Microsoft has again banished that rumour to way outside the Garden of Things I Actually Want, and reminded all of us, the consumers, that you bought your 360 to play GAMES on, not watch movies. As we’ve said before, Microsoft has no plans to introduce an Xbox 360 Blu-ray add-on….
