Toronto Comic Con annouces line-up

Fan Expo may be the biggest comic convention in Canada, but it’s not the only one. The line up for Wizard’s 2011 Toronto Comic Con was announced earlier this week, and it’s chalk full of fandom favourites including Star Wars alumni Billy Dee Williams and David Prowse. Of course, beyond the pop culture draws, there will be plenty of comic creators on hand.

At the TIFF Lightbox with the Hand Eye Society

The Hand Eye Society held the Arcadian Renaissance a while back TIFF Bell Lightbox.  On hand was a bank of arcade cabinets loaded with a number of great indie games, no quarters required .  The main event of the evening was an exciting, big-screen NIDHOGG tournament. Every time I see or play NIDHOGG,  I just wish I had it at home.  It’s a 150 proof distillation of 1 on 1 competitive gaming.  rgbFilter.com was on scene…

FX legend Douglas Trumbull appearing at Lightbox for two nights

Douglas Trumbull, legendary special effects supervisor for science fiction classics 2001: A Space Odyssey and Blade Runner is appearing at the TIFF Bell Lightbox December 8th and 9th giving back to back presentations on the effects of the two films, starting with 2001 tonight.  Trumball, more than possibly any other special effects artist in film, has defined the spectrum of the future. From the clinical crispness of 2001 to the advertising splattered dystopia of Blade Runner, almost every film since has operated somewhere within those ranges.  Chances are, if you…

Great Canadian Cinema? Yep, at the Toronto Underground

Starting December 2nd, the Toronto Underground Cinema is running a four day showcase Canadian movies, under the title Good Canadian Cinema? TUG ran an online survey, and the result is definitely an eclectic mix.  Whether it’s the genre defining sex comedy Porky’s, which I haven’t seen since the days of mom and pop video stores, or the mind bending Naked Lunch, with David Cronenberg’s most under-appreciated film, it’s pretty clear that fans of the Toronto Underground have great taste when it comes to Canadian film. Friday’s co-presentation (with Rue Morgue…

Telus launches Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate at Gaming Expo today

With the Holidays just around the corner the release of new phones is almost a daily occurrence. Only two days after the big Windows Phone 7 launch Telus is adding another Android phone to their already impressive line-up of little green robots – the Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate 3G+. The Telus Fascinate (not to be confused with the US only Verizon Fascinate that is slightly different) is basically the same phone as the Bell Galaxy S Vibrant that we looked at a few months ago here, the only change being…

Telus Android news round-up

Over the past week there has been some interesting Android news from Telus, and we’ve collected it all in one place, just for you. HTC Desire Android 2.2 (Froyo) update available now Telus has announced that the 2.2 Froyo update for the HTC Desire is being pushed out today through an OTA (over the air) update.  This is after a couple of false starts last week, when the update was released as a download online, then quickly pulled. Even without the update, the Desire is already in our opinion one…

2010 Toronto Zombie Walk – UPDATED

Just a friendly reminder that the 8th annual Toronto Zombie Walk is only a few days away, starting Saturday October 23rd at pm.  The mass of undead corpses seems to grow every year, and with that, the Zombie Walk now requires registration (online registration now closed – see the site for in-person registration), mainly for city logistics purposes.  Although you can register on the day, your best bet is to register in advance to save time before the event.  If my number is any indicator, they’ve already surpassed 6000 officially…

Windows Phone 7 in Canada: What We Know So Far

Today marked the big reveal of Microsoft’s reboot of it’s mobile strategy with Windows Phone 7. At 9.30 AM EST Microsoft finally pulled the covers off for the world to see the initial phones that will be available at launch (November 8th in North America), though much of the OS has already been shown in great detail prior to today. My first reaction was that the handset selection is a little slim, and there is not much innovation beyond the base ‘chassis 1’ specifications. However this is a launch of…
