Playstation interview with Sony Canada’s Matt Levitan

This past week, Sony held a public Holiday preview event at the Hummingbird Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, showcasing not only a number of games aiming for the holiday season and beyond, but the PS3 Move and 3D in action. While there, the biggest lineup was probably for Gran Turismo 5, which had a lot of people waiting to get their hands on it.  We got a chance to talk with Matt Levitan, Director of Marketing / Public Relations for Sony Computer Entertainment Canada, about how the Move is…

Child of Eden at Tokyo Game Show – Rez Super HD?

Child of Eden, from Q? Entertainment, the spiritual successor to Rez HD (Rez remade), had an extended demonstration at the Tokyo Game show. If you’re not familiar with Rez HD, it’s ostensibly a 3rd person shooter where your hacker avatar attempts to infiltrate an advanced computer network controlled by an AI named Eden. The game itself was completely on rails, but that didn’t stop it from becoming one of the best titles released on the Xbox LIVE Arcade. What makes that game stand out is it’s balance of visuals and…

Sony Ericsson X-10 Mini unboxing and short review

A couple of weeks ago, before the craziness of Fan Expo and TIFF, Sony Ericsson was kind enough to send us the new Xperia X10 Mini for us to review. In the video above you can see our un-boxing of the phone, and a short review, where I go over the main features of what they claim is the ‘The worlds smallest Android phone’. The X10 Mini was also recently awarded ‘European Mobile Phone 2010-2011’ by the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA). Please note that while shooting the video…

Sony Move for the PS3 officially launches

If you’ve been waiting to get your hands on the PlayStation Move, it’s out now.  The wireless motion contoller allows players to move objects accurately through 3D space in games on the PS3, using a combination of accelerometers and the PlayStation Eye to provide 1:1 motion.  The official Sept 19th launch date was originally announced back at E3 2010, but John, our man in Montreal, was at his local game store on Friday, where there were a couple of boxes worth just sitting on the floor. Instead of ponying up…

HD Video Bitrate Standards – Clearing up the Confusion

While reading about the new Nikon D7000 and its initially unimpressive sounding HD video modes, I’ve come across a lot of opinions by many people who are disappointed about it’s possible 19.3 Mbps (Megabits per second) data rate. This includes many indie filmmakers thinking that rate may be too low for their purposes, myself included.  We’ve all heard much about what are the good bitrates to look out for are, which ones are broadcast ready, which ones are crap and so on.  Well, I stopped and asked myself, “Wait-a-minute, just…

Sony NEX-5 camera review

We first got a quick peek at Sony’s NEX-5 at a Sony event a couple of months back, and were suitably impressed with the overall design.  It’s not as bulky as a full on DSLR, while having more control, than your average point-n-shoot pocket camera.  We finally got a review unit from Sony a couple of weeks back and have passed it around the bullpen.  Click on past the break for our impressions, and some sample images from the NEX-5.

Mass Effect 2 coming to the PS3 in January 2011

It was bound to happen.  With Mass Effect being one of the most innovative franchises to come along in a long time, in both story telling and gameplay mechanics, it’s no surprise that BioWare has announced that it’s bringing the hit game to the PS3.  To further entice PS3 players, BioWare is including hours of bonus content to immerse them into the ME universe. [I hope some of this bonus content fills in the back-story from Mass Effect 1 for PS3 owners, since the second game’s story is even better…
