LG IQ Windows Phone coming to Telus soon, pictures leaked

A few weeks ago a Best Buy Mobile flyer (see the flyer image by clicking more below) showed a mysterious LG handset called the IQ. This mystery was quickly solved when it was discovered that this was the HSPA Windows Mobile ‘Monaco’ QWERTY slider, previously rumored to be coming to AT&T in the US. Today The Mobile Ninja’s posted a gallery with lots of of images of the phone – hopefully a hands-on will follow. According to the Ninjas the IQ has a 3.2″ screen, 5mp camera, LG’s S-class interface…

Telus HSPA network off to rocky start, iPhone and HTC Hero in tow

A day after Bell’s Nov 4th launch of their new HSPA network Telus’ went live. Like Bell, Telus’ flagship handset is the iPhone, but unlike Bell the remaining handset selection is a lot slimmer at the moment, lacking any lower end phones. Telus is exclusively selling the HTC Hero, an Android 1.5 phone, and the LG BL40 ‘New’ Chocolate, and with Bell they have the Blackberry Bold 9700 and like Rogers the Nokia E71 qwerty. Hopefully this line up will expand, and there are already unconfirmed rumours that the Samsung…

Telus Officially Announces HSPA and iPhone Launch Date: Nov 5th

After many months of internet fed rumours, which most of time should be taken with a grain of salt, Telus and Bell let the news drop that they would start selling the iPhone on their new HSPA network in November. Today Telus finally clarified the exact date, November 5th. They also announced the other handsets that they would be launching, since the iPhone isn’t the end all and be all for everyone. One of them is the (exclusive to Telus) HTC Hero, the hotly anticipated Android phone running HTC’s slick…

HTC Leo aka HD2 Coming To North America

The long-rumoured HTC’s latest flagship phone, the  Leo (aka HD2), has finally been confirmed by the company, and the list of specs are nothing to sneeze at.  There have been a couple of reasons why it wasn’t brought up here before.  One is the fact that we’re not big on hollow rumours (that’s why you don’t see us talking about the Apple tablet).  The other is that the HD2, like the original HD, appeared to be aimed at the European market, but that’s been disspelled by HTC’s CEO Peter Chou….

HTC Hero Announced – Best Phone UI ever?

HTC held a launch in London, England to announce their new phone, the HTC Hero, running Google’s Android. The first thought that ran through my mind is “Oh great, HTC launches a new Android phone, big deal.” That is, until I saw videos of it in action. This phone could be huge. What really sets this apart is the user interface, which HTC is calling the Sense UI…

Mobile Flash Coming This Fall

In it’s Q2 2009 earnings presentation, Adobe mentions that Flash 10 for smartphones should hit beta October of this year.  This should mean a better quality (or, finally, the capability) of most smartphones from Nokia, Microsoft, Palm and Google amongst others to play robust Flash content on the go.  We’re assuming the beta will hit all these operation systems at the same time, and should provide a consistent Flash presentation environment. There are two major phones missing off that list though: RIM’s Blackberry line, and Apple’s iPhone.  I’m not exactly…

Rogers says that the Revolution is here – at least until June 19th

In a press release dated May 7th, Rogers asked cellphone users to “Join the Mobile Revolution on June 2”. Right up until a few days before, when pricing details ($149 on a 3-year term) leaked out, the only thing many users knew about this “revolution” was that Rogers was going to be selling the HTC Dream (a.k.a. “old” Google G1) and HTC Magic (a.k.a. “new” Google G2) Android OS smartphones. While being one of a select few carriers worldwide (along with T-mobile and Vodaphone) to sell Android handsets was a…

Rogers brings Android to Canada with HTC Magic and G1

Rogers is teasing the Canadian smart phone public (you’ll have to pick your province when you click the link because Rogers is SO down with web design) with a live countdown to announce the arrival of Google Android phones to the Great White North. Not only are they getting the HTC G1 with the sliding keyboard, but they’re also getting the slightly slimmer keyboard free HTC Magic. This comes just a day after Bell announced the Palm Pre coming to Canada later this year, which leaves only Telus to bring…

Mobile World Congress Impressions

It would be an understatement to say that the 2009 Mobile World Congress (which kicked off in Barcelona on Monday) has been the most eagerly anticipated outing yet. Some of the expected highlights included the announcement Windows Mobile 6.5, a slew of phones based on Google’s Android and a GSM version of the Palm Pre with Vodaphone, though nothing official on that one yet. Heck, if you want to get your Dick Tracy stylez on, LG has busted out their LG910 touch screen watch phone…

HTC’s Goal of Full Spectrum Dominance?

It looks like HTC is making a big push with it’s Touch branding, as three devices have recently been announced by the Taiwanese mobile device maker to expand its line up. Beyond the HTC Touch Diamond, which we discussed in episode 9 of rgbFilter, we’ll soon be seeing the Touch HD, with a massive 3.8″ 800 x 480 WVGA screen, as well as the Touch 3G, which on paper looks to be the replacement for its Touch, adding a faster processer, and a slightly pared down verision of the 3D interface found…

Diamonds are an Apple h8tr’s best friend. (and include unlimited data)

Along with the Bell Instinct announcement yesterday, Telus officially confirmed they would be the first North American wireless provider to have the new HTC Touch Diamond, which is the latest and greatest Windows Mobile device. The CDMA model is slightly different than the GSM one that has been available for a short time in Europe in Asia – although they have ditched the faceted ‘diamond’ look of the case, the CDMA model retains the same slick user interface and features improved specs. The battery capacity has been increased (at the…
