*SPOILER* L4D2 “The Passing” achievements released

“The Passing”, the new downloadable campaign for Valve’s Left 4 Dead 2 is due out this Thursday, and being the generous group they are, they’ve posted a list of the new achievements that go along with the new content.  If you haven’t heard anything at all about “The Passing”, and you don’t want to know anything about it until you start playing, I’d stop reading here.  Some of the achievements may contain plot spoilers. If you just HAVE to know, you can read the whole list

Crysis 2 trailer from GDC 10

“Does it play Crysis?” is almost on its way out as a meme. That’s because Crytek has shown off Crysis 2 at GDC this year, with a not-surprisingly stunning video showing off the capabilities of not only the game, but the latest iteration of the underlying engine, CryEngine 3. Even though the footage is from a cam put up by gametrailers.com, it looks spectacular, especially since a lot of the footage is labeled as being rendered by the console version. The game is coming out later this year for the…

OnLive US launch set for June

Remember OnLive, the cloud gaming service that promises to handle all the computational power of video gaming at their servers, requiring only a browser plug-in (Windows & Mac) or MicroConsole? Yesterday OnLive announced that the service will officially launch for US consumers (well, the 48 contiguous States) starting June 17th during the E3 2010 show. Access to the service is $14.95 a month, although that’s on top of game rentals or purchases. There will also be lower prices if you sign up for multi-month plans, though details haven’t been announced…

Portal 2 becomes a reality, and OSX support is not a lie.

In 2008, on Doug’s suggestion, I picked up a copy of the year-old Orange Box for the 360 on a whim. (Said whim was spurred on by Doug’s claim that if I didn’t buy it, there was something seriously wrong with me.) Turns out, he was right, as Orange Box was my first foray into the world of Valve, and from there, Steam, thanks to the brilliant PC version of Left For Dead. Orange Box spends very little time on my shelf, as I quickly found myself addicted to HL2…

Metro 2033 using DirectX 11, looks awesome

It’s not very often that the technical quality of a video game’s screen shots make it worth discussing, but these shots of THQ and 4AG’s Metro 2033 warrants it.  THQ recently put out some new screens of the game rendered using Nvidia video cards with DirectX 11 support, and the results are stunning. The sci-fi shooter takes place in a post apocalyptic Russia, and will be coming out on multiple platforms, but I think it’s safe to say if you have a PC rig capable of playing Metro 2033 with…

Bioshock 2, Darwinia+ out this week

It’s February, so you know it’s that time of year when ‘big’ games rarely get released.  Except that 2K’s Bioshock 2 launches tomorrow on the Xbox 360, PS3 and Windows.  Continuing (sort of) the story from the original Bioshock, the sequel will also bring Rapture-themed multiplayer variant to the franchise, thanks to London Ontario game studio Digital Extremes. Also launching this week on XBLA is Darwinia+, the console version of award winning, genre-bending Darwinia.  You can catch the trailer for that

Fallout New Vegas: Fall 2010

Bethesda Softworks, makers of Fallout 3 have released the above teaser trailer for the all new “Fallout: New Vegas”, which is being developed by Obsidian Entertainment. This is noteable because Obsidian is made up of many former developers from Black Isle Studios, the creators of the original Fallout.  It certainly hits many of the same stylistic notes as Fallout 3, with the “golden oldies” soundtrack and retro-future look, and with Obsidian on board will hopefully stay truer to its ‘traditional’ RPG roots than Fallout 3 did. Needless to say, this has…

Aliens vs. Predator demo coming Feb. 4th

The Sega Europe blog has officially announced that a multiplayer demo will be released on Thursday Geb 4th for the upcoming Aliens Vs. Predator game, via Xbox Live, PSN or Steam, depending on your preference.  This AvP is set in the future (roughly around the time of Aliens), and will allow the player to take on the role of Alien, Predator or Colonial Marine, and duke it out in a refinery designed to feature areas that will be more suited for each species.  From Sega… There are numerous vantage points…
