Rogers HP Netbook (non) Deal

After annoucing the 50Mbps hi speed internet option in the Toronto area for the low low price of $150 a month, Rogers is now making on the go internet convenient and similarly expensive. For $300 you can get an HP Mini 110 netbook with embedded 3.5G service, with data plans starting at $25/m for 500MB of data, on a 2 year contract. Canadian High Speed Internet (Slowly) Trickles Out

Marketing Strategies Highlight Duopoly In announcements just a day or so apart, Rogers and Bell/Aliant are starting to offer up real high speed internet for Canadian consumers in limited areas. Rogers is bringing 50Mbps DOCSIS cable access to Toronto residents, for the price of $150/month.  Besides the 150Mbps, you’ll also be looking at a data cap of 150GB per month, which is pretty anemic for the price.  If you do the math, you could blow through your 150GB cap in about an hour 10 hours if you’re going full (non)throttle….

Rogers says that the Revolution is here – at least until June 19th

In a press release dated May 7th, Rogers asked cellphone users to “Join the Mobile Revolution on June 2”. Right up until a few days before, when pricing details ($149 on a 3-year term) leaked out, the only thing many users knew about this “revolution” was that Rogers was going to be selling the HTC Dream (a.k.a. “old” Google G1) and HTC Magic (a.k.a. “new” Google G2) Android OS smartphones. While being one of a select few carriers worldwide (along with T-mobile and Vodaphone) to sell Android handsets was a…

To start it off, the Montreal Gazette is reporting (in a story who’s title “Consumers r skrood by ph compnEz – agn” can be considered either a painful attempt at 1337 speak, or a dig (not digg) at the literacy rate amongst internet users, that Bell and Telus are considering charging customers per sms received starting in August, with speculation that…

Canada’s unfair data rates get international attention, believe it or not.

Anyone who has even taken a cursory glance at our main page will know that we’re what you might call a little irked over the ramrodding Canadians are taking if they want to purchase an iPhone from Rogers. In a nutshell, Rogers is offering half what AT&T is for more money, and a third what O2 in the UK is offering, also for significantly more money. It’s a grossly unfair monopolistic practice that can in no way represent what the “vast majority” of consumers want or need, and considering the…
