Alan Wake preview “Bright Falls”

It’s just under 3 weeks until the new Xbox 360 action thriller game Alan Wake hits shelves (May 18th in North America, May 14th in the EU), making light itself your most powerful weapon against the forces of darkness.  What makes this most interesting is that the game is written by Sam Lake, writer of the Max Payne game, who had a knack of capturing the right tone for that game. To follow a trend that seems to be more and more prevalent every year, there’s a prequel short film…

Windows Media Center in HDTVs, Xbox Live TV around the corner… dare I say “synergy”?

Microsoft has talked in the past of making the Xbox 360 an ‘all-in-one’ set top device, capable of providing DVR and TV capabilities, but little substance has come from it. Now, Game Focus is reporting that according to their own trusted source, that an Xbox live TV service will be coming to both the US and Canada by 2011, and that this would work in conjunction with a major telecommunications company, which narrows it down to basically Rogers or Bell.  Users will have access to live TV feeds, recording capabilities…

Crysis 2 trailer from GDC 10

“Does it play Crysis?” is almost on its way out as a meme. That’s because Crytek has shown off Crysis 2 at GDC this year, with a not-surprisingly stunning video showing off the capabilities of not only the game, but the latest iteration of the underlying engine, CryEngine 3. Even though the footage is from a cam put up by gametrailers.com, it looks spectacular, especially since a lot of the footage is labeled as being rendered by the console version. The game is coming out later this year for the…

Prince Of Persia: The Forgotten Sands gameplay video

The new Prince of Persia, due out in May, helps fill in the seven year gap between The Sands Of Time and Warrior Within, as seen in the new trailer, which has both gameplay footage and developer commentary. From the looks of it, it’s very much in the Warrior Within vein design-wise. Interesting to note that to build the game, Ubisoft Montreal made use of their in-house Anvil engine, which allows for up to 50 enemies on screen at one time. Besides the classic parkour style action, there’s some new…

Bioshock 2, Darwinia+ out this week

It’s February, so you know it’s that time of year when ‘big’ games rarely get released.  Except that 2K’s Bioshock 2 launches tomorrow on the Xbox 360, PS3 and Windows.  Continuing (sort of) the story from the original Bioshock, the sequel will also bring Rapture-themed multiplayer variant to the franchise, thanks to London Ontario game studio Digital Extremes. Also launching this week on XBLA is Darwinia+, the console version of award winning, genre-bending Darwinia.  You can catch the trailer for that

Xbox Live going 360 exclusive

According to a letter today from  Marc Whitten, GM of Xbox Live, the original Xbox is definitely looking at it’s sunset months, at least when it comes to online gaming.  Support for the original Xbox on the Live service will end on April 15th, 2010.   This includes both original titles compatible with the 360 and the downloadable Xbox Originals games. This doesn’t affect the single player experience, as it affects the multiplayer gaming aspect. The largest groups of people to be affected are fans of Halo 2 and Counter Strike….

Fallout New Vegas: Fall 2010

Bethesda Softworks, makers of Fallout 3 have released the above teaser trailer for the all new “Fallout: New Vegas”, which is being developed by Obsidian Entertainment. This is noteable because Obsidian is made up of many former developers from Black Isle Studios, the creators of the original Fallout.  It certainly hits many of the same stylistic notes as Fallout 3, with the “golden oldies” soundtrack and retro-future look, and with Obsidian on board will hopefully stay truer to its ‘traditional’ RPG roots than Fallout 3 did. Needless to say, this has…
