Sure, it’s Canada Day, and we all should be outside. In the meantime, if you haven’t added Texts From Superheroes to your regular list, you really should.

We first talked to Mike and Ian of the comic Freelance Blues at Fan Expo last year. After that conversation, we just had to find out how things were, especially with the then embryotic project RoboHorse. As it turns out, that project lives with a written script and all.

Ken and Alex Steacy were manning a table at Fan Expo, showcasing Alex’s project Shards, which highlights the artistic talents of a number of artists. Peter talks with them about the Shards project, as well as a wide range of topics from Ken’s Desert Bus stint, the shrinking role of middle men in the industry and what exactly is the best metaphor for Shards: apparatif, canape or hor d’oeuvres…
Read MoreBatman: Arkham City comics fill the gap between games
I was really late to the game when Batman: Arkham Asylum came out in 2009. Even though it was a commercial and critical success, with most saying it was the best Batman game of all time, it struck me as faint praise, given what had come before. Last fall, I finally got around to picking it up, and I loved everything about it. The game captured the spirit of Batman better than anything outside the comics. Even if it were stripped of the Dark Knight’s trappings, the gameplay was fluid,…

Also a few days ago on the Left 4 Dead blog Valve detailed their plan to expand how the comic will…

Freelance Blues is a new indie comic from the minds of Mike Leone and Ian Daffran. A comedic take on Lovecraftian horrors mixed with the real horror of moving from job to job, the third issue was launched during Fan Expo this year. Although the series artist, Vicki Tierney, wasn’t on hand, we sat down and talked with the writers… well, more like stood there while they talked about what Freelance Blues is about, and what else they may have in the works. You can check out the first issue…

While make our way through artist alley, one of the many tables that caught our eye was that of Caanan Grall, creator of Max Overacts and Celadore, the latter which originally appeared as part of DC Comics ZUDA online experiment. After taking a look at some of his work on Celadore, we had a quick chat about the upcoming graphic novel release of Celadore. Be sure to check out the Max Overacts webcomic.

One of our first stops at Fan Expo this year was at Camilla d’Errico’s booth. She has a unique art style that bridges the gap between anime and western style comics work, which she’s using to full effect in her book Tanpopo. The book uses the text of classic literature, such as Faust, accompanied by her characters. You don’t have to take our word for it though, as you can catch some examples at her website. As an added bonus, she’s donated some of her work to our Swagbag 2010…

Peter B. sits down with Jeff Lemire, creator of Sweet Tooth (see Peter’s review) and Essex County, to talk about his influences, and the recurring theme of small town life in his work. The next chapter of Sweet Tooth will give readers more insight to Jepperd’s background. Jeff also mentions that the mysterious event that led to the current day situation will get an explanation, though he drops no hints. He also talks a bit about his upcoming Superboy comic (the Kon-El Superboy), and that both The Phantom Stranger and…

With the end of the last weekend of August comes the end of Fan Expo, by far the largest gathering of fans from across the geek spectrum in Canada, and third largest in North America. 2010 also marks the third year that we at RGB Filter have stormed the gates with video cameras and mics in hand to interview artists, writers, game designers and the occasional geek celebrity, meaning that I’m personally looking at about 6 hours of footage to pour through. One of the consistent highlights of Fan Expo…

The end of August is the one time of year where the various geek and nerd subcultures collide in a heady mix of homebrew costumes and unadulterated hero (and heroine) worship.
