变换并且铺开 (or, “Transform and Roll Out!”)

(This image has very little to do with this article; I just thought it was funny. Stolen from gwjokes.)

If you’re like the rest of the film-loving world who has an affinity for giant metamorphic interplanetary-war-fighting robots, you recognize that Michael Bay’s blow-em-up-real-good Transformers movie, um, sucked. Personally, I enjoyed putting my brain in cruise control for a couple of hours and was admittedly blown away by the effects in the flick, but on 2nd (and 3rd, and 4th, and 5th…I like robots) viewing, it’s plainly obvious Bay couldn’t make a decent movie if he himself were a robot programmed to do nothing more than make a decent movie. The whole debacle left me wanting, wishing someone out there could, and indeed would, do a better job.

Enter Jeffery Lau, the Hong Kong director of the award-winning Chinese duology A Chinese Odyssey.

Lau’s film Robot, which has been on the idea table for the past 10 years, will finally start filming this month.

In April this year, Lau partnered with Le TV.com to establish a film company, for which ‘Robot’ will be the first creation. Zhuo Shunguo from Le TV.com, the investor, said the movie will present a refreshing look at Chinese robots for people who are used to stereotypical Hollywood figures like Spiderman and Superman. He said the Chinese robot, in comparison, would feel closer and more human to audiences, as it is the incarnation of Oriental wisdom and strength.(crienglish)

It can’t be said for certain precisely what is meant by that statement, but it can be safely assumed that Optimus Prime will likely not clumsily step on a garden fountain and then utter an apology by way of “oops, my bad” in this version.

Whether the movie is in fact based on the Transformers franchise, or if the release is cleverly using the phrase “Chinese version of ‘Transformers'” to lure people like myself into a state of false hope, is unclear. Details are few at this point. The cast hasn’t even been announced. We will just have to wait and see.

This 100% Michael “KABLAMMO” Bay-free robot story will be shooting in and around Shanghai beginning November 19.
