Globalive launches Wind Mobile advertising in Canada
Globalive, and their Wind Mobile branded wireless service may still be waiting on approval from the Canadian powers that be, but that hasn’t stopped the newcomer from starting a national advertising campaign as of this past weekend. The spots use the Candid Camera approach to reveal the egregious nature of the incumbent companies’ policies, and work as commentary even if they aren’t ads in their own right, wich is a slim possibility.
Industry Canada and the CRTC are still trying to decide what to do with Globalive, as the largely foreign owned company was denied launching by the CRTC, even after Industry Canada gave them the go ahead to buy spectrum. That these ads are now rolling out COULD be a hint that Globalive knows which way Wind is blowing, and a launch could be imminent…
Chris Robbins, Globalive’s chief operating officer, said the company continues to prepare for launch, continuing to train staff and build distribution networks. “Our focus is to be ready to go,” he said.
The Toronto-based company spent more than $442 million for a share of Canada’s wireless spectrum in a government-run auction last year. [from Marketing Mag].
As a side note, using ‘on the street’ approach works really well in the ads. Maybe the folks at StopTheTVTax.ca could learn a thing or two about making convincing ‘reality’ spots.
You can catch the other two ads by reading on…

You never ever ever use actors in a testimonial. (The moderator aside, obviously.) It cheapens the whole thing and comes across as anything but genuine.
