Toronto Hand Eye Society Social Tonight
The Toronto Hand Eye Society, a “not-for-profit coalition of projects and people in support of Toronto’s videogame communities”, is holding their third social of 2010, at Unit Bar, 1198 Queen West. In addition to having a presentation by Brandon Boyer, founder of Offworld, contributing editor of Boing Boing & newly appointed IGF Chairman, the Society just announced that indie game artist Mark Essen will also be attending:
Mark Essen Hoffman aka MESSHOF, a bona fide indie videogame rockstar & educator, will be rocking Unit Bar this Thursday alongside Mr. Boyer. You may be familiar with Messhof as the creator of the inimitable & mind-altering Flywrench (written up in The New York Times somewhere here) and other made-in-Gamemaker punk videogame marvels such as Randy Balma Municipal Abortionist & The Thrill of Combat, many of which have appeared in museums & galleries including Toronto’s own Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art. Messhof’s contributions have even earned him a spot in Vice & Intel’s ‘The Creators Project‘ alongside folks like director Spike Jonze & musician Richie Hawtin, Messhof being the only videogame creator to be recognized in this context.
For more info about the event, and to join the Hand Eye Society, visit their site here. Suggested arrival time is 7:30pm, and space is limited, so “arrive early and, if possible, be small”
rgbFilter will be attending the social, so if you can’t make it, out check back soon to see our coverage.
Invite after the jump.
