Rogers offers Unlimited-ish Data Plan for iPhone 3G.
Hot off the Interwebz, Rogers is now offering a promotional $30/month Data plan for the iPhone 3G.
$30/month will get you 6 GB of data (ED Note: for phones purchased on or before Aug 31st)
You can add the $30 data plan to any existing plan.
If you think that’s still a little tight, consider that AT&T’s advertised “unlimited data” plan actually includes a 5gb “soft cap“, meaning customers who go over that amount may be subject to additional fees. The intention is to avoid people thethering their phones and using them as wireless modems.
This news comes just 2 days before the national (and international) launch of the iPhone 3G on various networks around the world. Many telcos, including New Zealand’s Vodafone, have come under fire for what customers consider unreasonable rates for the new device. Public outcry has been extreme to say the least, and in some cases has affected change; some telcos bowed to public pressure and modified their plans to accomodate their customers.
Rogers has been noticeably silent during the Canadian furor over the iPhone rates, which included 150 daytime minutes and only 400 MB/month for $60, a price that does not include call display.
Today’s news comes as a surprise. While not unlimited, many feel that 6GB/month on a mobile device is a fair compromise.
RGBFilter’s very own Alex and Paul will be at the Rogers store at 112-10 Dundas Street East to cover the launch. Customers attending the launch day event at this and other Rogers Plus stores will be treated to a free early bird breakfast and have a chance to win Rogers Wireless prizes.
