Nvidia Tegra in the Zune HD?
The news finally broke last week about Microsoft’s upgrade to the Zune line, with the Zune HD. The device as a number of interesting specs, including a 480×272 multitouch OLED screen for excellent contrast and colour, and will output HD video with an HDMI dock, as well as a web browser. Think of the Zune HD as Microsoft’s response to the iPod Touch.
What’s even more interesting is that from most reports (and the sometimes dependable wikipedia) the onboard processor is probably the Nvidia Tegra, a mobile graphics powerhouse which we’ve been waiting to see in the real world (trade shows don’t count) for some time since it was first demoed well over a year ago. In embedded netbook sized devices, Nvidia is claiming 25 DAYS of continuous music playback, or 10 hours of 1080p video on a single chage.
In related news, Adobe has been working together with Nvidia (and Intel) to provide graphics acceleration for Adobe’s ubiquitous player (FINALLY), one of the major drawbacks to mobile flash playback, and Tegra isn’t a Microsoft only player, as they are also working to provide the same functionality to Google’s Android OS. Oh yeah, they’ve been able to make dual boot Windows CE/Android devices as well.

Oh, and here’s a bonus video of Gizmodo’s hands-on with the Zune HD…
