Mass Effect 2 has beefed up combat system
Joystiq managed to get a hands one with Mass Effect 2 during E3 this year, and in the really good news department, they’re reporting that the combat component is a lot more ‘combatty’, or in their words, a it IS a shooter. The game is once again being made by Bioware Edmonton, and this time round there’s a supplemental team at EA Montreal. The original Mass Effect was the first RPG game I had played in a long time, as I had all but forsaken every other gaming type after laying hands on the original Quake. One of the drawbacks of the original ME was it’s lackluster combat. It’s great to hear that they’ve really beefed up that section (and I hope not to the detriment of the RPG elements).
If you’re a fan of epic space adventure of the Star Wars/Star Trek/Babylon 5 variety, and have a PC or Xbox 360, I still highly recommend the first iteration as well, as I found it way more compelling than any of those franchises, and in some cases, better acted to boot. There’s no solid ship date for the sequel, but expect it in the first part of 2010.
