Batman: Arkham City comics fill the gap between games
I was really late to the game when Batman: Arkham Asylum came out in 2009. Even though it was a commercial and critical success, with most saying it was the best Batman game of all time, it struck me as faint praise, given what had come before. Last fall, I finally got around to picking it up, and I loved everything about it. The game captured the spirit of Batman better than anything outside the comics. Even if it were stripped of the Dark Knight’s trappings, the gameplay was fluid, moving from beat-em-up fights to puzzle solving to stealth action without missing a beat.
With the sequel, Batman Arkham City, due out this fall, DC has announced that starting in May they’ll be releasing a 6 part miniseries written by Paul Dini and drawn by Carlos D’anda. Both Dini and D’anda worked on both games as well, and the miniseries will fill in the 18 months between the end of the first game and the beginning of the second, and will be available both in print and digitally. In addition, there will be a series of 8 page digital short comics, written by Dini and drawn by a variety of artists, that will work in conjuction with the miniseries.
