Apple’s Anti-Windows 7 Commercial Up The Irony Factor
The day after Windows 7 launches, Apple has fired off the latest salvo of spots starring John Hodgman and Justin Long. Although one could argue that they wore out their welcome a long time ago, these just plain old stink. The focus this time round is “hey everyone’s switching to the Mac”, even though according to their own numbers, this is far from true, but then again, the PC/Mac spots were never known for their accuracy. Then again, very little advertising IS accurate (it’s rare, but it happens).
The most amusing take from these ads is that just before launching these, Apple also announced that it will officially support Windows 7 in Boot Camp by 2010.
Apple will support Microsoft Windows 7 (Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate) with Boot Camp in Mac OS X Snow Leopard before the end of the year. This support will require a software update to Boot Camp.
If everybody’s going Mac, why bother, right? I’m just saying.
Those ads never said that ‘everyone is switching to the Mac’. That claim was simply never made. There wasn’t any reference to ‘everyone’ at all; just some people were shown switching to the Mac, so what’s the big deal — is it a ‘lie’ now to show any crowd of switchers to the Mac? I don’t think any sensible ads could be made under your impossible ethics that seem to apply only to Apple. Anyway two of the three ads are quite mediocre but the ‘Broken Promises’ one is freakin’ hilarious and right on the money, and that is generally par for the course with these ads.
…meaning the .333 batting average on ‘great adness’, that’s what I’m saying has been par for the course.
