Awesome trailer for a game I have never heard of until today
Futuremark, creators of the industry standard benchmarking tools 3D Mark and PC Mark, apparently have be working on a game, something that many people would hope they would do, given the quality of the ‘demos’ in their tools. I for one however was totally unaware that this dream had actually become a reality until today, when I saw this trailer. Excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the floor.
Shattered Horizon is a zero G online only FPS. This is a PC only title, and with graphics like this that is no surprise. It is going to be priced very reasonably at $19.95, and is coming out next week, on both Steam and Futuremark’s own website.
Wow that looks like fun. What a fucking rad concept.
However
“This is a PC only title, and with graphics like this that is no surprise. ”
?!? What’s so special about the graffiks? To me it’s not nearly as good looking as this:

Sorry man, gotta totally disagree. Thought the Uncharted 2 gameplay footage looks good, the marketing of it “looking like a movie” is complete nonsense, and that guys girlfriend has to be some kind of half wit, not that there’s anything wrong with that… 🙂
The real time lighting/shadows in the Shattered Horizon looked absolutely amazing. Not quite rendered quality, but pretty much the closest I’ve seen in a game so far, and superior to anything I’ve seen on any console.
Uncharted 2 is the best looking game ever released on ANY console
just sayin
carry on
[trum]
That still doesn’t make it as impressive as the lighting/shadows seen in the Shattered Horizon, or even this…

You want spoiler?
eh?
Just as an example, look at the lighting changes on the rocks at about 50 secs into it, as the two players emerge from the rock, or the point where the two of them are running by the shipping containers.
That’s some pretty impressive, yet subtle, stuff.
yeah consoles are simply limited by their 3 – 4 year old graphics tech and limited memory. In the hands of skilled programmers and artists games like UC2 and MGS4 can still look damn good (of course running at a much lower rez) but on closer inspection all suffer from problems such a lower rez textures, simpler lighting affects and constraints on level geometry. Most console levels are either simpler in design or include mutiple loading screens as new content is streamed. Though the gfx in this trailer might not be a flashy as many console games it is technically much better in everyway
Oh I’m not gonna say SH doesn’t look the shit, I’m just less floored by the graphics than you are.
I do agree the lighting effects are pretty great.
Am I the only one who pretty much doesn’t care about getting higher quality light and shadows?
Not that there’s anything wrong with it…
Nope.
I mean they’re great & all, but at the end of the day, who really cares?
Technology will continue to improve the look and quality of a game. It’s just evolutionary.
Considering I’ll likely be playing it on a 1920×1080 display anyway, I geeve on pixel crushing goodness 🙂
