Rogers brings Acer Liquid e, Android 2.1 to Canada
Rogers bringing the Android 2.1 packing Acer Liquid e is an interesting development on a couple of fronts. It’s the first time a North American carrier to bring an Acer smart phone to market. It’s also the first official phone to be running 2.1 Android in Canada, although Telus’ recently released Milestone is upgradeable from 2.0.
“Rogers is very excited to be partnering with a highly respected global brand like Acer to bring the Acer Liquid e to Canadians consumers,” said John Boynton, Executive Vice-President, Marketing, Rogers. “By exclusively launching, the first Acer smartphone in Canada, we are once again demonstrating our industry-leading ability to be first to bring to market the latest and greatest mobile devices Canadians are asking for, and adding to our already impressive line-up of Android-enabled devices.” [from Acer]
The candy bar styled Liquid has a 768MHz Snapdragon processor, 800×480 screen, 5 megapixel camera, and most of the bells and whistles one would expect with a modern smart phone. Availablity and pricing will be released closer to release date. In the computer world Acer is best known for low cost systems, which has propelled them to top 3 manufacturer status. Whether that type of pricing scheme will hold for their North American phone debut remains to be seen.
