Mobilicity clears CRTC hurdle – launching ‘spring’
Though the imminent launch of Mobilicity this spring has been more or less known for a couple of months, they still had to meet the ownership regulations of the CRTC. Well, it looks as if, after a little bit of tweaking of their shareholder agreement, they’ll be cleared to go.
As such, the Commission finds that, upon completion of the required modifications to the Shareholder Agreement set out in the Appendix to this decision, DAVE Wireless will be Canadian‑owned and controlled, meeting the requirements set out in section 16 of the Act, and will be eligible to operate as a telecommunications common carrier. As with most other new Canadian entrants, Toronto will be the kicking off point, with other cities to go online a few months later. No pricing has been announced on the Mobilicity site, but they are promising straight forward plans and simple billing, a la Wind Mobile.
