New Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World trailer & on-set interview
Yesterday, the second trailer for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World was released after Edgar Wright had decided to withhold its premiere until his Twitter campaign reaped a desired 100,000 ‘likes’ on Facebook. It was a little disappointing to find out that he was clamouring for ‘likes’ on a site that many people have moved on from. And, naturally, the cynic in me suspected that, even if the goal hadn’t been met, the trailer would have come out all the same.
This trailer gives us a much better look at the film than the teaser from a few months back (as trailers often do, of course), and it clearly showcases Wright’s signature style, combined with the fantastical real-life video game elements of the comic. Despite the awesome visuals, I am still withholding my excitement about this film. Not just because I’m not really a big fan of comics (and yes — I have read all five issues), but also because it looks like the film showcases yet another one-note Michael Cera performance. But, hey — I could be all wrong.
Also a few days ago, Slash Film posted a great on-set interview with Edgar Wright, Michael Cera and Jason Schwartzman.
Q: We’ve heard a bunch of times today that this feels like doing a bunch of mini movies. So, would you agree with that, and if so, how do you keep tonal continuity throughout the picture?
EW: I think it’s more in terms of the length of the shoot, and the nature of the exes, where it feel like more of a TV series because it’s, like, Chris Evans month, and then it’s May Whitman month, and then Brandon Routh month … so I guess that’s the way it sort of feels like. But it’s like a seven deadly sins-type film … well, in this case it’s six because one of them is twins, so you’re going through six hoops, basically.
