Project Natal becomes Kinect
With E3 2010 kicking off, Microsoft has decided that the official name for Project Natal will be Kinect, according to a since-pulled article from USA Today that was published on Sunday. Besides the name change, a number of games were announced…
- Kinectimals, which is a virtual pet game, with over 20 different animal.
- Joyride a racing game that is driven by your avatar.
- Kinect Sports, which includes bowling, boxing beach volleyball, track and field, table tennis and soccer, and sounds very much like a controller free Wii Sports.
- Kinect Adventures, a river rafting race game.
- Dance Central, which sounds a lot like Dance Dance Revolution without the awkward mat.
A couple of other Xbox 360 rumours? One, you’ll be able to control your avatar with Project Natal Kinect, adding new life to the little buggers, and that an Xbox 360 Slim was spotted at E3 as an ad on an Italian website. The latter is certainly plausible, as a photo of a smaller Xbox motherboard made the rounds a couple of months back. Expect a stream of news from all three major console makers over the next couple of days, as Microsoft is scheduled to do their big presser tomorrow at 10am, with Nintendo and Sony to follow the next day at 9am and 12pm, all times Pacific of course.
I don’t even know what Project Natal is, and it is already being changed to something else which I will likely not remember what it is either, and any chance that I would eventually pick up on what this thing is and start to remember it by name, through repetition, is a lot less important I guess than… well, I don’t know what it is less important than. Having a cooler name? Microsoft is so incompetent at branding.
