Win a Samsung Galaxy S on Bell, Video calling confirmed
The new Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant ‘Superphone’ is coming to Bell soon, and to celebrate the phone’s launch Bell is giving one away each day until the phone’s release, expected to be this Friday, August 6th. Along with the phone giveaway, there is also a chance to win tickets to see Lady Gaga, and a Samsung 55” LED TV.
The webpage advertising the contest also confirms that the Galaxy S will support video calling. While the model of the Galaxy S that Bell is carrying does have the front facing camera, the original press-release had made no mention of this feature, but the contest page says that you can:
Connect face-to-face with Facebook friends from anywhere on the new Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant when you get Bell’s exclusive Video Calling feature.
More details on Bell’s video calling feature can be found here. This feature costs an additional $5 per month, and does seem to be quite limited at the moment, only supporting calls from Facebook to, and between, the four Bell phones that support it – the Nokia N97, Samsung Omnia II, LG Xenon and now the Galaxy S. However, unlike the iPhone 4’s FaceTime application, it does work over 3G networks, not just Wi-Fi.
The rules and regulations of the contest contain some interesting information, like the end date of the contest (which is the expected release date of the phone), and the phone’s outright price.
Each Prize consists of 1 Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant smartphone. Approx retail value $599 CDN. ea
Hopefully this price will translate to something better than $199.95 on a 3 year contract, since if it is not lower the 16GB iPhone 4’s aggressive pricing ($159.95) will be a better deal.
