Toronto After Dark Film Festival announces lineup
The Toronto After Dark Film Festival has opened its online box office and released their 2010 lineup. This is the 5th year for the TADFF, which runs from August 13th to 20th at the legendary Bloor Cinema. TADFF’s eclectic mix of horror, sci-fi and other genre pictures often includes a number of films that rarely get Canadian screening, and it’s good to see they’re keeping up with that tradition.
Although the whole lineup is solid, like every year, there are a few films in particular that stand out. This time around that includes Doghouse, a British zombie film from director Jake West, director of 2005’s over the top Evil Aliens. All indications are that Doghouse exhibits the same twisted comedic mix of sex and violence of West’s earlier films.
The trailer for The Last Lovecraft, about the last descendant of H.P. Lovecraft out to save the world from the very monsters the legendary author wrote about, looks to be a great popcorn movie, with some interesting visuals. Cargo, a Swiss film about an alien lose on a spaceship, while a well-worn sub genre, looks like it might bring something new to the table.
Finally, for those who remember growing up in the era where most corner video stores stocked as much, if not more low budget horror films than porn, there’s the remake of the horror revenge classic I Spit On Your Grave.
Honestly, so many more of the films look like must-sees that I’ll just point you in the direction of the TADFF listings to check them out.
In the mean time, you can catch trailers from a couple of my picks after the break.
